The Imperial Drakon-Class System Patrol Vessel, or just SPV, belongs to the most build Ship Class of the Empire, but also the most hated by their Crews. Thats because commded aboard one of these is considered a Career Dead end. Most Crewmen of a SPV can be put into one of three categories: insubordination, incompetence or blamed for something some Higher up screwed up! Grand Admiral Feronis Taloris is a master in the Later categorie and it is rumored he alone have send thousends of young promising Officers to serve on SPV's, just to cover up his own incompetence. And considering the role of a SPV, to patrol the wast territory's of the Empire far behind the Frontline, most of them would never get the chance to redeem themselve!

Despite this and the bad Reputation this brings, the SPV is not bad at all! They are good, well builts Ships and good for their intended role. They even have a Hangar most Imperial Vessels lacked, even if only for small Boarding Shuttles. A SPV is quite nimble and well armed. It is ideal for dealing with the occational Pirate Attack and scare smugglers into submission. Armed with six Dual Light Turbolaser Battery's and two medium Turbolaser Turrets, a SPV can easily stand their ground in a one on one Gun Battle with a Pirate Ship. Even in a fight against more than one Ship a SPV can hold out thanks to four Torpedotubes. If a Ship is dissabled, the two Tractor beams came to play. holding a Ship in place, it is then Easy for the three Boarding Shuttles the send over a boarding party.

The spv entered Service thirty years ago, freeing bigger Ships like Dreadnaughts and Battleships from Anti-Pirate and Smuggler Duty's. You could say thanks to the SPV, the Imperial Navy can put so much pressure on the Alliance. Because of it, the true Heavy hiter's of the Fleet don't have to bother with small fries anymore. But not all works well with it. Sometimes, the Imperial Sector Command is forced to pull multiple SPV's into makeshift Battlegroups, especially in conquered territory's. Some Pirate's have collected a sizeable Fleet of Warships, most famously Pirat Captain Silvia "Starfox" Tormsen with her Fleet of eighty Heavy Cruisers. Often this turn into true Fleet Battles, but neather side could deal a devastating blow to the other now, partially because of the Ship saving Tactics of Pirates or the lack of true Tactics on the Imperial side. Imperial Sector commands simply reacts, pull together SPV's and throws them at the Pirates with simply orders like "Destroy them all!" or "Chase them away". Needles to say, this wage set of Orders and lack of success in this engagements are not good for SPV Crew's moral. It is also not helpful that free thinking and acting on their own is forbiden by Sector Command.

But despite all this, SPV's are effectiv in their intended role. Sector Command reports indicated, that more than thirty thousand Smuggler Ships have been boarded and more than ten thousend Pirate Ships got destroyed by SPV's.
