For context I know plenty of grown-ass men going apeshit for these hello kitty - yugioh happy meal plushies (they're available in latin america at least, idk about elsewhere), i just find it really funny

So, instead of hoping to get the right toy, why can't they just pick which one they want with their Happy Meal? Or just get the toy without the food? ...Or is that just a thing here in Poland that they let you pick your toy? When they ran a Pokemon figure series I went and asked for the toys only and that was no issue whatsoever :P
I feel like if one of them got it and the other didn't, they'd offer to trade, assuming the other wanted it more, and then the one who didn't receive it would be like "Nah, you got it fair and square... instead I will seethe with an envy that makes your victory even more delicious... knowing you would do the same for me." While Boomer looks on in "these kids Savage AF" horror.
while it is true that a lot of us millennials are gamers (considering as, we were around for the NES-era)...
...i honestly cannot confess to knowing of anyone —anyone, who's over the age of 40, anyway!— who (if i am being blunt) is this child-like
what i can tell you is:
as with most of these Personality Abnormalities..
..what we're seeing here defies Generations
i'm truly racking my brain trying to remember the specific age when i'd stopped [asking for] Kid's Meals..
..at a minimum, that had to be around the time when i was able to start buying my own Mickey-Ds — at 13
(which was the age when i held my first job, for a few weeks of a summer)
but, actually, i'm pretty sure i "graduated" to normal-sized meals between 10 - 8
(i probably told my grandparents / mom something like, i'm too old for that now)

as someone who has worked at a McDonald's when ever they have weeb or collector stuff they go all out to the point people ask all the time to buy extra toys and we can't do that. one guy at our store knew the GM at the time and order a case of Pokemon card toy they did for scarlet and violet a few months back. while another "family" of 10 adults order 10 happy meals each so 100 happy meals in one order.
After the bizarre pacifier/baby bottle fad in the '90s, at least in the USA, nothing surprises me. It was so crazy fairs would always have a variety of different colored pacifier necklaces available with prizes etc, then there were the baby bottle keychains and stuff. It's so surreal it's almost like the memory of a dream. But no, it happened.
