the model was made in zbrush. it is not rigged. i use the transpose tool to set up the poses.
( it started as a model of freya form final fantasy 9 )
it took about one weekend. ( i used my lemur model as basemesh and parts of other models for the hands and feet - so the initial part of the modeling was very fast)
i use zbrush to render different passes as photoshop files. these are then composited into a flash video in aftereffects. then i use flash to add controls and export is as swf.

After having seen this, I just wanted to say a big thank you for showing what a proper hip/leg/tail structure would look like for such a creature which would stand on it's rear legs. This should be mandatory reference for anyone drawing a critter with a thick tail.
So many people get it plainly wrong, yet you've shown here quite well that it can be done properly, and still look really good.
