The two have been close friends ever since Falhawan helped the other escape a miserable life in a wretched city. Her name is Rider because she literally rides on Falhawan's back. After escaping the city, she disowned her old name and went nameless for a time until Falhawan absentmindedly called out "Come on, rider!" one day. Rider decided to adopt that as her new name.
