Artfight: Enter the Dragon (like, six times)
Event: Artfight 2024 - Seafoam vs Stardust
Drawing: My 31st attack this event (67th overall)
Attack target: JotTheDragon (artfight.net/~JotTheDragon)(toyhou.se/ThatDragonDude)
Featured character: Igneous "Chompers" Dragon
Snippet from the character's bio: "Comedic Shapeshifting; Can shift into other animal forms (maintaining palette and the branch-horns) if a pun/joke can be made depending on the situation."
This character has been the subject of 20+ attacks before mine, yet none of them (I think) capitalize on this curious trait. Can you believe it?? It's my duty (read: hobby) to see to it that a shapeshifter such as him be shown shifting shape.
"Been a while, crocodile!" This is Chompers's standard form, a gorillic-crocodilian-sort-of-dragon fused with an entire "back"yard. With his big jaw/neck and goofy lil eyes against an imposing mask, his face is very fun to draw. The 'P' and 'K' icons on his shirt are based on input notation from the Guilty Gear games (I could tell the creator was a fan based off of the multiple GG OCs and AUs in their AF roster).
"Cheesed to meet you!" Immediately contrasting Chompy's chonky build by making the rat form all spindly. That creature on his sweater is the weird-looking-dog from Milo Murphy's Law. I will explain the correlation... later.
"Honored to make your duc-quaintance!" There weren't any visual examples of Chompers shapeshifting on the character page, so I was winging it (pun unintended) with the shape language for most of these. I was relieved when she turned out a nice-looking duck.
"Cochon ça va?" Chompers starts switching up the language. At first I tried combining the word "coucou," which I was told was a casual French greeting, with the word for pig, "cochon," to get... "cou-cochon," which sounds. a bit forced. Fortunately I decided to commit one more iota of research, and was able to pivot to "comment ça va?", the French equivalent of "how are you?" Also Chompers is holistically just green Pumbaa in this shot lol.
"Konbanya~(ФωФ)" = "konban wa" (good evening) + "nya" (meow). This will sound like I'm pulling your leg but, the ref material says that Chompers has a thing for wearing Weird Al merch. My Al knowledge was limited, and I have an easier time making up merch for visual works than musical careers, so my brain wandered to that time My Little Pony put a Weird Al horsona in the show - hence, this design based on the cutie mark of Cheese Sandwich - and the previously-named Disney show which Yankovich starred in. Now that I say it out loud... it would have been more thematic if I gave the rat the "cheese" themed shirt..
"Namassssste." I wasn't sure if extending a sound by spamming one letter is a thing in Devanagari (the writing system Hindi uses) the same way as in English. So instead I did something artsier and extended the letter itself. On a different note, I wish I could go back and redraw this snake, more than any other panel. Their face is kinda hard to make out, and more importantly, the tail ought to slink to their right side- seeing how every other Chompers has their right arm/limb raised.
