“Another game module from Varan?” Fuji asked as he saw his wife grin at the incoming mail notification.
The golden palomino mare smiled at the monitor. “Yeah, and she apologizes for how long it took to get it done before sending it to me. She included notes, and says that she and Vesan explored several bad endings for all three of our characters.” While Fuji went back to playing with Jinzi, Meredith accessed the game module and began to glance through the various scenes.
Her tail began snapping back and forth, and the Komodo monitor glanced up.
He saw the look in her eyes.
“Tell you what, Jinzi,” the bull said, “let’s go play in the living room, okay?” He scooped up his daughter and her toys and carried her into the next room.
The door whispered closed, shutting out the spate of Kashlanin profanity.
Fuji sighed. He’d have words with Merry later about swearing around Jinzi.

I'd say you're doing pretty good so far, though I do miss a few things ...
And then there are writers that start books off with the likes of this:
"That looks like your snotty, Senior Chief."
The Marine sentry's low-pitched voice exuded an oddly gleeful sympathy. It was the sort of voice in which a Marine traditionally informed one of the Navy's "vacuum-suckers" that his trousers had just caught fire or something equally exhilarating, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Roland Shelton ignored the jarhead's tone with the lofty disdain of any superior life form for an evolutionary inferior.
