I used to draw these little fish with legs all the time! I made a little community around them and an art game and everything.
Then people got shitty, rich people wanted to get richer, and now fish with legs are everywhere.
They used to be fun! We used to be friends, me and these little fish.

Sure, I would be happy to!
And yes, it wasn't really a video game, it was a game played by a lot of people so that their adopts would be more than just adopts. They could be bred with one another and produce hybrid offspring, and people could earn points to get free art and free designs by drawing their characters. So the more they drew their puddlesqueaks, and the more time they spent on it/the level of completion, the more points they could rack up and eventually use them to purchase a commission from me.
There was also a form for a MYO- make your own for just a few dollars, but everyone was really pissed when "make your own" meant.. Well, making your own, and they were not getting super cheap custom art drawn by me with no care given on their part.
I had created a hatchery shop where players could purchase surprise eggs, like a gatcha. I had created a habitat shop where players could use their points to add items and furniture to customize their enclosure, which was an image of a pen with their animals inside it on their user profile (which I hosted as an image in a DA group) as well as a potions shop that could alter the appearance or fecundity of their puddlesqueaks, and a shelter where players could rehome or trade! All conducted in image and text based pages on DA.
Unfortunately it didn't take off past being mere adopts for 2 main reasons:
People constantly violated the rules, which they did not even read, and were angry at -me- for some reason when they went back and read them and realized they were wrong about what they could and could not do, and secondly everyone just basically took my intellectual property. And I mean *everyone.* Imitations are everywhere even now, there are even shows popping up on netflix. Truthfully, it isn't that innovative of a design: Aquatic animals with feet and dog-like behavior, but no one else had done it and I wanted to make something of it that could be fun for everyone.
I decided it was a lot of work and stress for no reason, so I bestowed the entire species, project and the account it was on to someone else, and they promptly abandoned it, so I suppose it wasn't any great loss to the community. It was fun while it lasted, until people got involved, haha. I drew hundreds and hundreds of many great designs! Some of them I consider my best creature design work.
Thank you so much for asking, it was very kind of you to show interest <3

Hey, no problem! That's a wild story, thanks for sharing it! I'm sorry it became such a bad experience, though!

This part right here, for me, sums up around 70% of people, haha. Especially on projects like that, with creativity and intellectual property, the risk is much too high it turns to shit, solely because of these 70%.
And yes if I may be so brutally honest, the idea of 'fish with legs' isn't that innovative of a design, as you also mentioned, but I also noticed this; even if people steal the idea from you, what they can't steal is the heart and passion behind a drawing. I mean, I look at those drawings of yours here, and THEY are MY favorite fish with legs! :) If that makes sense.
There are also other "not so innovative but cool designs" out there. For example, you mix an animal with an element. Something I see often is 'fire + popular animal'. Fire eagle, or fire horse, for example. But it's always a certain something that will make one design stick out more between the others. And I think that's what matters in the end.

Yes, god, I agree. If you become a known creator in any capacity, everyone just kind of considers your work public property, and you *owe* it to them. That's why I've kind of petered out over the years.
Thank you for your kind words! :D You're welcome to make some fish with legs xD I won't begrudge you of it
At least element+animal and fish+legs is a little more soulful than all the kids trying to gatekeep and police dragons as "theirs"
