Welcome to puberty, kid.
It's hard to believe Miles is now officially a teenager. Before he was born, Wac and Tawny were discussing having children, and they were concerned about whether their kids would inherit Wac's lycanthrophy and how severe it could be. Just as a precaution, they decided that when they were ready to start a family, they would do so only when Wac was in his normal form. Alas, they found out the hard way that Wac is only fertile -- and exceptionally so -- when he has transformed. Despite Tawny still being on birth control, Miles was conceived accidentally, and his parents panicked for months, worried about how their first child would behave once he was born.
To their relief, Miles was born physically normal, and for years appeared to be developing with no psychological problems. He does have abnormal vocal chords, rendering him unable to speak and only able to whisper, but the family doctor believes this condition is unrelated to lycanthropy. For his entire life, Miles has never had a transformation episode, and he was anxiously optimistic that he wouldn't have to endure the same inconvenience as his father.
Well, so much for optimism. Now it's time for "the talk", and the long process of learning how to control episodes and how to hide his condition from the general public. Thankfully, it's a myth that were people are bloodthirsty killing machines. Mostly it just makes you a bit dumb and in the mood for snacks. Miles is very mild-mannered and not prone to anger or malice -- or binge eating -- so he should adapt without too much trouble.
Of course, now Wac and Tawny need to worry about their daughter, Melissa. She's a total firecracker, so when she comes of age and feels the call of the wild, she'll need all the help she can get!

Poor Miles, not only constantly embarrassed by his "weird" family, and I didn't even know about his voice, and now that... Well, maybe there is an upside to it and he manages to gain some strength and confidence with that. Only time will tell, I guess, but somehow I doubt that a talk with his dad will help very much
Yes, Miles was always a timid boy but as he grows up he gets a lot bolder. Knowing you can transform into a strong beast whenever you want tends to give you a sense of security and confidence, especially when you have support and guidance from your family (which Wac didn't have).
Miles is also fluent in sign language and alternative communication, and following aspirations to be a physical therapist, goes into medical research. He's a sharp kid. 8)

I can sympathize with this idea. I had a grade school friend who could not "Yell", but it had more to do with his vocal cords being damaged. Sometimes in class I had to act as his "Speaker" as I sat next to him, and the teacher was hard of hearing.
Anyway, it's delightful to see such a quiet and intimate moment taking place between your characters. The image is both touching and emotionally powerful.

Modern technology makes this so much easier. Miles carries a tablet everywhere he goes and it can speak what he types. He's also fluent in sign language.
I've been wanting to do this picture for a while, even if it didn't turn out as nicely as I wanted. Some of my watchers have been following me for a long time, and many of them are probably now raising their own families and watching their kids grow up. I kind of figure they'd appreciate these kinds of family slice-of-life pictures.

Some of my family grew up a little weird (a brother is mildly autistic, I'm... me). Adjustment to social gatherings is an ongoing challenge. My cousin lost his vocal cords before he was a teenager; he can barely speak above a whisper. It didn't keep him out of the service and he founded and sold two businesses...
