Visited DC earlier this month & spent an afternoon hanging out with the wonderfully talented
Beast-Boy
We were comparing notes on our mutual adolescent fascination with TF & how we dealt with it back when it was our deepest, darkest secret we could never reveal to anyone. (Like I said, quite a few years ago.)
I told him about 14 year-old me lying to my mom I was cycling to the library, when in reality I was heading to the Meadowbrook Theater on Hempstead Turnpike to see The Sword in the Stone without anyone knowing. For his part BB described feeling so self-conscious going to see Brother Bear that rather than asking for a ticket out loud, he wrote the movie's name on a piece of paper for the ticket seller to read. I so identified with BB's plight I had to illustrate the moment.

Wish I figured that out a lot earlier than I finally did. Even when I was well-ensconced in the furry scene I was still putting a lot of energy into keeping "Joe Strike" and "Comus" separate, until several years ago when I finally said f*** it, stood up and said, "I am Iron Man" - oh wait, that wasn't me. (Also, seeing dozens of other TF artists here on FA - almost all of whom draw better than me - helped me realize I was in good company.)
The first one was a little quick but fit with the tension of the scene. The second was better; I loved watching his hand grow into a paw, fingers slipping out from between his brother's, and then his head swelling back to the improved ursine shape.
It's still a movie near and dear to my heart. Actually watched it again a few weeks back with my family. Still love it.
