Little lore dump time. I'm still playing with world building with these taurs with this comic starting just about immediately after this moment. These pages got started as some practice setting up comic page layouts, and trying to edit my dialogue down, working on characterization and formatting and trying to make a faster process and all kinds of little stuff that collectively I thought was 'done enough' that I might as well put a little more energy into cleaning up and actually finishing. Tightened up the linework, and plopped some colors in and I end up with a decent little introduction to these two but there's still a little context needed that would have been dropped a little before this:
Cherry was a unicorn that, while not of royal lineage, was raised well within the royal court. Nearly the same age as Princess Moonstone she and a few other foals of the court staff were educated alongside the lone Princess to ensure she was well socialized. Thus Cherry was trained in literature, history, mathematics, and even some sorcery all while becoming good friends with the Princess as they grew up together. A spirited little pony Cherry also indulged in sessions with the castle guards, and while she would never make a good soldier she could make a good showing of herself. When they grew into adulthood the Princess took on more official duties, Cherry dove into learning protocol and diplomacy. Joining the castle staff, and working her way up those ranks to eventually become Moonstone's Majordomo when the Princess ascended to the throne. When disaster struck the small pony principality and most of Moonstone's advisors, aids, and commanders were gone, she leaned hard on her childhood friend for support, and Cherry was just as determined to help her no matter where the Princess decided to take them.
Like all these little dragons Cobalt was an escapee from the dragonlands, and roamed the landscape alone until she inadvertently met up with Caldera. Both dragons had the unusual ability to actually trust each other enough to work together and respected each other's ability. When Caldera decided to try to take charge of this motley group of dragons, Cobalt fell into the role of her main lieutenant and enforcer. Being a second set of eyes and teeth when needed. While Cobalt isn't entirely certain of Caldera's sanity in her effort to control this group of dragons, and then hatching this crazy scheme, she has stuck around since there isn't any better options.

I've always been interested in seeing some moments of friction in the run up to the fusions. Not having everyone seeing eye to eye with one another or the situation they've been dealt with was always going to create for great scenes like this. Looking forward to seeing what all you have to share :D
Heh. There would be significant more story, if I could write the story. :P
One of the bizarrely fun things in this world building is to try to find actual reasons that any of these, especially the more antisocial dragons, would plausibly do this. Because it is a bit crazy.

After reading the comic page: This is such a great character study, for Cobalt - and I'm pretty sure the next page is going to be a great bit of showing just what kind of pony Cherry really is. :}===<
After reading the lore dump text: Ahh, so it's a match-up of the two main adjuncts to the leaders. Merging the two seconds-in-command! :} I love the amount of worldbuilding/backstory you have going on here. :>
