Insigne Bushtail had never been to space, nor did they have a great opportunity to study the stars. Originally part of a hive mind, they were initially scouted for recruitment into a leadership role as the new ruler of their planet. A visit from the U.S.S. Riptide did something that had never been done before: Broke several away from the hive mind and allowed them to explore who they were, and what they wanted to do in the universe. Bushtail primarily refers to themselves in the third person, while still retaining a partial connection to the hive mind when the ship comes into port.
