Awesome portrait for
vale-valentine of their iguana character Vale.
This was so much fun I don't even- I grew up with pet iguanas and I've always had a soft spot for drawing reptile characters. If anyone else out there has reptile characters they want drawn, please commission me! I love these guys!

Oh, but they can be. I raise Iguana's myself. Iggy, my rescued 4ft iguana LOVES to cuddle<3 she sleeps in be with us, and even comes downstairs to sit on our laps, on the couch while we watch tv X33 They're amazing animals, and so smart. People dont give them enough credit. ^^
You're very welcome :)
You're very welcome :)
I have lots of experience too, and to be honest, I've only ever known one iguana that would intentionally harm anyone, and he was a very abused twice-over rescue. Any other iguana I've handled has been really sweet and friendly. I never trim or file their claws though, and they just tear apart everything on their way through the room because of it. I still cuddle them, I just always seem to end up with scratches or little claw marks.
They definitely are amazing pets, but not for everyone. They need a lot more care than most realize, yeknow? Just because they're cheap at the petstore doesn't mean they're cheap to maintain! :P ...and the poop. Oh man. Always in the water dish or right under the heat lamp so that it stinks up everything. XD You really have to love them to keep them, and I think that's why they're so often abandoned.

Oh yes, the claw marks. People often think I'm a cutter because of the abuse I take from my lizards XDD I've grown used to it. I do file my iguana's nails though, I have to. Iggy's claws would get caught in the carpet. I've been trying to let her be,though, she just had her tail amputated :/ My poor baby. She was also from a very abusive home. They found her in a meth lab with no food, water, or lights. Honestly, I dont know how she survived. She was caged with another iguana that would constantly bite her, as a result, she has a re-occuring abcess on her lower jaw that I keep an eye on, it's looking much better now, it's almost gone.
Zee on the other hand is our little jerk. He's so spoiled, and he knows it. He's the one you have to watch out for, he will bite. He's only 2 years old, still a little guy. He has really come a long way. He's to the point now where you can actually hold on the him for longer than two minutes, haha.
They are harder to take care of than everyone seems to think. They require a lot of attention, not to mention constant monitoring of their heat and humidity. ....and omg.....yes...the poop.D: My iguana likes to do her business behind the toilet, so we've set her up a tub behind there, but omfg......worst smell EVER.
They're wonderful pets, but as you said, you really HAVE to love them, and I cant stress this one enough, RESEARCH BEFORE YOU OWN ONE!!!
^wow, did I write a novel or what?!... >> (loves iguana conversations) XDD

Oh man, see, you know exactly how it is! Iguanas are probably the most commonly abused animal on the planet when it comes to pets. I myself have never abused mine, but these days I just can't keep them anymore, yeknow? I don't have the space, the time, or the money to keep them the way I'd like. The one I had before was the only exception. He was dwarfed from abuse, and I would have kept him because he required less space and food. I was working on getting him used to people again... but my parents gave him to an iguana farm because he attacked my hand so badly I almost lost my thumb. They were picking teeth out of it in the hospital for an hour! Unfortunately all I've got left from my iguana-keeping days are my scars and some good memories. Still, he went to a good home.
A meth lab of all places?! Under those conditions it's a miracle she's alive at all!
I know what you mean, it's so hard to find anyone who's really into keeping iguanas, I tend to write a small novel myself at every opportunity. >_>

oh wow, I've never been bitten that badly. I've been bitten on the lip, hands, cheek, and nose. Sounds like you must have ripped the iguana off of you. In that case, pour some rubbing alchohol on a towel and hold it up to their nose, they will let go immediately, and will be less painful, believe me, I know from experience :)(It wont hurt them)
I rescued a baby iguana from a pet store that had a mouth deformity. He had been in there for a while, they were going to kill him. I ended up taking him home free of charge after ripping the pet store a new asshole. They kept pushing on his mouth D: I was like, "IT'S NOT GOING TO MAGICALLY PUSH BACK IN PLACE, HE HAS AN EFFING DEFORMITY!!!!" Poor little guy. We named him Chance. He was the sweetest iguana I've ever owned. He passed away after a year from metabolic bone desease, ugh, such a horrible thing to watch :C
It is a shame they're so expensive to keep. I dont know how we do it with the two we have now, but we do, we love them so much. I will never be withoutout one, they have stolen my heart X3 I'm happy your iguana went to a good home! I'm happy that you found such a place for him, I'm sure he's VERY well taken care of :)
I would love to commission you sometime for a picture of my baby girl, Chrona. She was my very first iguana, she holds a very special place in my heart. I lost her to a form of cancer two years ago. Still tears me up now and again, but it's gotten easier.
Eventually, I'm getting a fursuit of her made, so maybe even a badge :) It would mean so much comming from someone with the same love and passion for reptiles <3

Oh no, I never try to forcefully remove a biting animal. No, he grabbed my thumb and did a barrel roll. He had tail-whipped his enclosure as a reaction to something he must have thought he saw there, and knocked the front of it clean out of the hinges. I don't know how he did it, he must have smacked it just right or something, and afterward I reinforced it. But he launched himself out onto my bedroom floor and was pretty freaked, so when I went to catch him and put him back, he tore my arms up, slipped out just long enough to grab my thumb, and then he did a barrel roll. It was like I put my thumb in a blender, and by the time I had pinned him so he couldn't roll, my thumb was pretty chewed up. I used alcohol afterward to get him loose. :c
Aww... MBD is so sad to watch... It's like watching your animal become a carnival-mirror reflection, I've seen it happen before and it always makes me upset. It can be prevented so easily, but treating it afterward... not so much.
They are expensive, and I used to spoil mine as much as possible! He ate nothing but fresh fruits and fancy salads. I don't even make salads that fancy for myself! :P My parents iguanas that I lived with growing up had the run of the house! They were exceptional though. They were litter-box trained and I only ever got scratched once by one when I grabbed her tail as an infant(she was full of eggs at the time, and moody!). They were so tame. :P I've loved them ever since.
Oh I would love to do that for you! Please don't hesitate to note me if you ever want something drawn of her, even if commissions are closed I'll set something aside for you. <3

Aww, thank you so much, that is super sweet of you! I appreciate that! :) *hugs*
WOW...D:..that's some crazy stuff. Reminds me of a Croc, I wonder what set him off? *cringes and the thought of alcohol on open wounds D:*
Yes, that's all my iguana's eat, every day. Salads. Fresh greens, some fruit, and plenty of veggies :) Safe to say the lizards eat better than we do, haha XDD They're fed 2-3 time daily. Zee, the youngest one, eats SO MUCH D: Every iguana I've ever owned has been SUPER picky, but him, he eats anything you put in front of him.
Aww, mama iguana XDD That's so sweet!!
Mine are free to roam the house as well. They, like your parents are litter box trained. Well, Iggy is, Zee goes on the tiled floor in the kitchen, he knows better to stay off of the carpet. I cant wait to get him trained, though. The constant cleaning of the floor SUCKS D:
Chance was the only Iguana i've owned that had to suffer MBD. It was one of the most horrible deaths I've ever had to watch..It was pretty obvious he had it when he was in the pet store, but I wanted to give the little guy some kind of chance at life, he lived a good one, though short.

It was JUST like a croc! I can only imagine the amount of damage a crocodile barrel roll would do. I still to this day don't know what set him off. I can only imagine it was some kind of reflection off of the front of his cage or something.
They're usually best kept when they can wander freely around at least one room. Mine was so traumatized by people that it still would have been several years before I could get him to that point. He felt safest in his cage.
Well then your heart was in the right place and there's no better that could have been done. :)
