Marcello Sapwood, or the Night Alley Hammer, as the police in Ridgeview have taken to calling him, is the main protagonist of the whole lore behind Monsoon Point and the tumultuous and often gruesome relationship that takes place between the non carnivorous creatures of the Western Provinces and the monster-like creatures of the Eastern Provinces. Both of these Provinces are separated by an enourmous saltwater body that spans the entirety of their length and opens out into the oceans. Often, these "Easterners" will slip into the border towns of the Western provinces to prey on and indulge their sadistic nature.

Monsoon Point, is one of the more infamous towns, and where the mainstay of the lore takes place, and happens to be the long time home of Marcello Sapwood. The sheer number of atrocities that take place within this larger border town, along with its crumbling financial infrastructure, have led to it being given the unpleasant name of "Butcher's Block". While the police force from Ridgeview is tasked officially with patrolling Monsoon Point, political and financial interests of the "wealthier" and more profitable Ridgeview often cause police to simply not show up to desperate calls for emergency. To compound matters, Eastener criminal organizations often bribe smaller city officials to "turn a blind eye" to their monstrous deeds.

Marcello Sapwood is a Northern Hare, but one of freakishly large proportions, dwarfing the normal diminutive size of other members of his species, in addition, whereas most hares are frightful skittish creatures that are exceptionally passive and are more prone to "flee" rather than "fight", Marcello has an extremely volatile and violent nature. Marcello often prowls Monsoon Point at night, searching for Easterner criminal elements of Monsoon Point to attack and viciously brutalize, often with just his fists, to the point of death. The surge of murdered easterners by vigilante justice caused police to brand Marcello as the "Night Alley Hammer"
