Eden Woods
BOXING
Born on March 17, 1912 in London, England
"Lord Counterpunch", as he was soon known, is to this day the only British boxer ever to win Prospect of the Year, awarded by prestigious boxing magazine Ringside. Woods could stand rival blows unperturbed, only to surprise them with a devastating counterattack, usually far more powerful than the initial attack.
His manager, Don Egbert, forced him to retire in April of 1949 after the boxer was diagnosed with severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy and the recently discovered Riley-Day syndrome.
