A native New Yorker, Pete enlisted right after Pearl Harbor and was assigned to the 6th Special Service Brigade - in other words, he was put in a werewolf unit. He learned a lot, and after the War he parlayed that knowledge into getting a reporter's job at the World-Telegram&Sun newspaper.
