Most of Lake State Railway's ALCo & MLW diesels are now out of service, replaced by rebuilt EMD power. A few still have switching duties around the Saginaw and Alpena yards, but most, as seen here at the Saginaw, Michigan roundhouse, are sidelined.

Until it broke down for the last time in 2005, the D&M unit was the oldest operating RS-2 in the country, having been built in 1942.

I don't know. Sidenote though- CN sold those M420Ws to the Kelowna Pacific, in BC, which used them until the mid-90s when they were sold here. To my knowledge, the M420s and C425s were the last ALCo/MLWs used. They ran the Alpena, MI rock trains and occasionally a freight down to Flint. I'm not sure if *any* of these units still run, though when I was there, 798 and 3504 looked like they had been run recently (probably just for switching). Lake State now uses GP40Ms and SD35s on most road freights. They also have two Geeps that were with the Whistler Mountaineer for awhile.
Amazingly enough, it's still in its original paint scheme, as-built and as-delivered to the Detroit & Mackinac Railway. D&M went bankrupt and abandoned half its system, then sold itself to the Lake State Railway, who still owns what's left- they never changed the D&M paint scheme on this and a few other units.
The last alco was scrapped in 2011:

The 975 "Lake Huron" was the last alco to be scrapped. It is also one of the oldest. The LSRC just completely pissed away the line's history and ended an era of railroading, and it pisses me off that they don't look at it as a big deal, but it is. They got 95% of their rail from THEM! It's kind of like if C&O would've scraped the Allegheny Locomotive, now in the Henry Ford Museum, sitting there unharmed while millions of people marvel at her.
