Theories on Nemians, Lipane and Ascension
Since I posted the depiction of the only Vossen to become a Nemian I decided to do something of a side series to explore which other races could or could not become Nemian in theory. These will mostly be non canon and simply be an excuse to show what these races might look like after the transdormation and the effects it may have on them like which abilities or traits they may lose and gain from it. The other reason for this series is to provide some guidelines for reference if this world ever gets opened up as a tabletop game. So if I get some interesting questions about Nemians, Neme or the Nemian church as a whole then answers might show up here as well.
So first of for these theories are the Lipane. Though very unlikely that a Lipane might become a Nemian on account of them being pacifists in general, exceptions like like Dragonhand Azya exist, as do a number of rogue Lipane mages who have no qualms about using their power for personal gain and who do resort to violence. But those are topics for another time. Since the Lipane serve as advisors on magic and artifacts in many places, even in the southern empire once, it is no different for the Nemean church. Ofcourse this practice means that the Lipane basicaly have spies everywhere to keep tabs on events around the world, and they can also study magic use in the different local cultures. Malijah has been assigned as an advisor to the order and she has been studying the Nemians for some time now, even tried sparring with them since she was with the Za'Yadun battlemages. Naturally she didn't stand a chance going toe to toe with the Nemians who are nearly twice her size and far stronger physically so only with her magic was she able to hold her own against them for a round or two. Ofcourse she had to hold back using her full power since this was only a friendly sparring match afterall, but is she were to go full power things might turn out quite different. Nemians are more focussed on Physical combat but they can also use magic to enhance their physical ability with buff spells, but they also have a range of magical attacks based on light and fire since their power comes from Neme, a sun God.
Many years passed and Malijah felt the end of her life drawing nearer, leaving her with one big regret of not being able to unravel all the secrets of the Nemians and their mysterious God, Neme. When she discussed this with the high priestess she was offered a chance to extend her life and become a Nemian herself and find out what it truly means to be a Nemian. Perhaps she might have been a bit hasty but she jumped at the chance almost immediately and got started on the trials, being already familiar with their scripture and most of their customs. She passed the trials and finally was led into the chamber where she met Neme for the first time she was so shocked and fascinated that she forgot why she was there and simply started asking questions, fortunately for her Neme was amused by this quest for knowledge that they allowed it and even provided a few answers, meanwhile the high priestes was becoming more and more concerned as the ascension should not take this long and the doors should have been opened again already, but as long as Neme did not allow if not even she would be able to enter the room. Behind those closed doors however Neme eventually struck a deal with Malijah, she would be allowed to ascend and have her life prolonged, but she would only remain a cleric and collect knowledge from far and wide as she pleased, however she could no longer share whatever she learned from Neme and the order and keep it a secret, any other knowledge she could share only if there was a good reason for it, she would essentially be dead to her former people.
It did not take much to convince Malijah, beign able to live so much longer beyond her years and seek out more knowledge was a fair price to her, she would have passed soon either way so it was also worth the risk if the transformation ritual did not work on her she would have at least had a chance within reach. Turns out the ritual did work on her and she was amazed at how much stronger she felt physically in this new body, and as it turned out Lipane seem to retain their fur color and pattern more or less after the ascension, however she found that her magical power had taken a big hit some spells she simply could not even cast anymore and the ones she could were certainly a lot weaker, with exception of fire and light magic which seemed as strong as ever, especially during the day under direct sunlight, essentially making her a sun mage now where as before her most powerful element had been water. Since she was not a knight or a paladin she chose to keep a staff as her main weapon, but with her past training as a Za'Yadun she was proficient enough with blunt weapons and shields so she fit right in as a cleric and she accompanied the knights and paladins on a number of missions to ancient ruins gaetherign all the knowledge she desired. She also had special exception to enter the inner sanctum with the high priestess to speak with Neme under supervision, later she would be sent to investigate the recently rediscovered and rebuilt city of Nagadrassil and the sudden return of it's people.
