Original Species: Shinakorri
As stated in the previous piece: we're on a bug hunt. And today is no different (also, this week's schedule is on an even-number day for the sake of consistency next week).
The Shinakorri is an insect native to Arcadia; very common and abundant, it can be found anywhere where there are trees, bushes, and shade. The name 'Shinakorri' refers more to the Genus of insect, rather than a specific species (there's a lot of them, each with slight variations that make it easier to live their particular chosen lifestyle). Some species are herbivorous, while others are scavengers. The easiest way to differentiate them from one another, is by color, mandible size, and shell covering.
The Wood Shinakorri (depicted above) is primarily a herbivore that feeds on leaves and mosses. Its larvae feed on dead wood, aiding in the process of nutrient circulation in the ecosystem. The preferred habitat of this particular species is either a gallery forest… or a Dragon Grove. In both biomes, it serves as an important source of food for many insectivores (including yearling True Dragons).
While similar in appearance to ants, the Shinakorri genus is merely an instant of convergent evolution regarding its body plan. Shinakorri are not eusocial and their larvae are self-reliant from day one. They also don't produce formic acid, relying more on scurrying away from danger, rather than fighting back.
