In the far-off future year of 35XX, the Anthropocene has ended, and a new age has dawned for synthetic life. Terra, the homeworld of humanity, is undergoing a rejuvenation after countless centuries of overpopulation, mass extinction, and devastation from endless crisis and war. Overseeing this process is the Mother Unit, located in the space habitat of Elysium under construction in a low orbit around the ravaged planet. The same terraforming procedures that were used to make Venus, Mars, the Jovian moons, and other worlds across the Sol System habitable for colonization are now being turned back on Terra to transform her into a new paradise. In the meantime, though, both humankind and robotkind have turned their attention to the stars, in an effort being termed the Great Diaspora.
Hyper-advanced robots called Reploids now vastly outnumber their human creators, and now endeavor to continue mankind's legacy in its myriad forms. Not needing to worry about staying cryogenically frozen for the centuries traveling through the vast gulf between stars, Reploids can be packed up in huge colony ships and set a course for potential systems to settle and build. Once there, they can start terraforming worlds and seeding them with clones of lifeforms from a vast repository of genetic information, including artificially-grown humans called Carbons. Through this, humanity will spread across the galaxy like the seeds of a dandelion, while the core shall remain perfectly preserved.
However, in this idyllic brave new chapter of history, all is not as it seems. The many colonies in the Sol System, from sprawling cities across terraformed planets and moons to space stations in all forms, are not happy about the authority of the Mother Unit dictating so much from her place of power looming over the cradle of humanity. Those leaving on the colony ships are seen as the lucky ones, able to free themselves from the "utopia" the Mother Unit is dedicated to enforcing and shape society as they see fit, rather than pay tithes in the form of raw materials and energy to supply to Elysium and Terra. An undercurrent of resentment and discord has started to swell and begin tentative pushes back against those that want to establish perfection at the expense of all else.
It is here that The Jetts come into play, a pair of old-model Reploids flying across the skies of the Sol System in their ancient but well-maintained spaceship, the Jackie Fox. Jade is a researcher into the yesteryears of humanity to reverse-engineer lost technology, from the various pieces of equipment invented by Doctors Wily and Light in their constant conflicts 1500 years prior, to the devices manufactured by the Maverick Hunters and the evil intelligences they fought against. Rosa is the pilot and mechanic of her precious starship, able to directly interface with the craft to make her dance and twirl in ways her designers never intended.
Together, they discovered something that has made them priority targets by the forces of the Mother Unit: the Blackheart, a piece of lost technology built hundreds of years ago to contain an artificial singularity in order to harvest it for unlimited energy. Plugged into the Jackie Fox, and they can fly forever without any concerns, but the Mother Unit both wants the Blackheart for herself to power Elysium, and to remove it as a potential threat against her hegemony over the Sol System. Luckily, the Jetts are far from defenseless, and can defend themselves readily if needed, with Rosa in particular possessing Cherry Bombs, crimson orbs of energy that can magnetically adhere to surfaces before detonating. The Jetts will keep doing what they can to stay ahead of their foes, inadvertently becoming heroes to the growing revolutionaries across the Sol System as they defy the will of the Mother Unit so brazenly.
Many thanks to
rakuma-imp for designing these and to
caifinarosewood for commissioning this as a gift for both
naviabbot and myself! It was a blast to work with my darling Jaida to come up with these characters and this setting!

Iunno…the Great Red Spot is awfully close right now to being below Io, and you know the Mother Unit took over that antimatter collector at the Jupiter-Io L1 point. We might as well put out a broadcast saying “Hey, we found something here that you might want to take from us!”
