Having taken a detour on his usual route to work, Erickson was surprised to find himself in a forest that he did not recognize. The change in scenery was gradual, so he didn’t teleport there… but he’d never seen these kinds of trees before, nor did he think that there was even enough room in his busy city for such a place as this to even exist.
He worked in an office, and looked the part, too, wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase. The spitting image of a Businessman. And now, a very lost businessman. But that’s okay, because he was just going to ask this little green fairy for help.
“Excuse me,” Erickson said. The fairy flew over to him… She was bigger than he expected. Well, she could just about fit in his hand, but before she’d looked no bigger than a firefly, just a glowing green light buzzing around. “Sorry, it’s just… I’m terribly lost, and I fear I’ll be late to work if I don’t find a way out of these woods…”
“Lost, huh? Yeah, that looks about right!” The fairy giggled at him as it flew around and got a good look at his getup. “I’m Clover, by the way! Can I have your name?” Erickson stared at her and said nothing for a few seconds before she gasped and smacked her forehead. “That’s riiiiiight, saying that is like, a whole thing, isn’t it! Sorry, I’m just, I’m asking you for your name— I MEAN, ugh, I’m asking what your name is! What is your name?”
“Right, my name is Erickson. It’s nice to meet you, Clover,” he answered, satisfied that her clumsy wording wasn’t an attempt to steal his metaphysical belongings.
“Erickson, huh? Is that a surname…?”
“Hm? Oh, uh, yeah, that’s correct.” Erickson frowned. “It’s just what people at work have been calling me, you know, the boss and my coworkers and whatnot, so I guess… I’ve…” The fairy looked concerned.
“Started thinking of yourself that way, too?” she posited. Erickson sort of half-nodded. “Not to worry!” Her cheery disposition flared back to life. “I can help you get back home, and I’ll give you a little something extra, too!” Before he could ask what she meant by that, a bright green flash sent a wave of tingles through his body, and Clover was gone.
… Well, she wasn’t really gone. She was just watching from the branches of a nearby tree, giggling to herself as Erickson squirmed and dropped his briefcase. His hands… well, really, their entire body was becoming much daintier. Cuffs of soft, white fur grew from their wrists and their neck, and their nails and ears looked pointy.
They let out a strangled, high-pitched yelp as their chest and hips swelled out against her suit. Little tears were forming in the fabric, allowing the flesh of her increasingly squishy assets to squeeze through. Their growth stopped just short of total garment destruction, however.
Erickson’s ears sprouted orange fur, the insides gaining white fluff, as they migrated up to the top of her head, growing large and triangular. Her hair shifted to orange, too, and grew a little longer. As she tentatively touched her new ears, a jolt down her spine caused her to double over, and the growing bulge in the seat of her pants quickly burst into a flood of orange softness, writhing and surging out, until her white-tipped tail finally settled, now long enough to reach the ground.
The former man— “W-wait, former man?” Erickson protested, properly hearing her new voice for the first time. “That’s not how it works, is it? Just because my body’s different doesn’t mean…”
“Ohhhhhhh, but it does…” said Clover, reappearing before the foxgirl with a menacing aura. “I’ve not only transformed your body, but also your very existence… You’ve always been a foxgirl, as far as anyone else is concerned! Every record of your existence, the testimony of everyone you know… and eventually, even your very own memories… all reflect this truth!”
They stood there in silence for a few seconds before Clover burst out into cackling laughter. “Yeah, I didn’t think so,” said Erickson. “Really wasn’t getting that sort of vibe from you…”
“Oh come ooonnnnnn! That was so convincing!” the fairy complained through her giggles. “I even changed your pronouns and everything!”
“You really did…” said the demifox, looking down at her admittedly stunning body. Her tie was all loose, her pants kinda-sorta-somewhat hanging on, a shirt button or two missing. “Uh… What’s the point of this, by the way? I’m definitely gonna be late to work now…”
“Oh, right,” said Clover. “I mean, wrong, actually.” Erickson realized she’d swiped his phone (the passcode to which was 3465) and somehow knew the number to get in! She was calling someone…
“Hi, is this— Hiiiiiiiii bossman~ Yes, it’s— Well, that seems a little rude, I prefer ‘Clover’, but yes, it’s me again… Just calling to let you know that Erickson is feeling a little under the weather, and can’t come in to work today, okay? Mhm, she needs a little time at home. Easily at least a week. Bye bye now, you take care~”
Erickson looked on in disbelief. “Did you just… call my boss…?”
“Sure did! He’s a real piece of work. Imagine getting called by a fairy who tells you she’s gonna whisk each of your employees away to a magic forest one by one, transforming them into beautiful woodland demihumans, only stopping once you start giving said employees the pay and benefits and treatment they deserve…” She trailed off in her exposition, lost in thought for a moment. “Yes, imagine being told alllll that, and then not even telling your employees about it, because you don’t want them to panic and stay home from work! Imagine letting it happen to two of your employees, so you know it’s real, and still not telling them! Haha!”
Erickson was dumbfounded. “Waitwaitwait, but… Wh… Okay, so… The point of the animal girl part is… what, exactly…?”
“Oh, right! That part’s just to create kind of a splash. Swap up your whole look and feel for a bit, just to make you think about you, and to do so in a different light.” Clover nodded as if this made perfect sense. “Really the point of this is to not only prove that your boss is an asshole, and that things could be different. Hell, the last guy even figured out she’s trans! Absolutely gorgeous wolfgirl now.”
“Oh, uh, good for her,” said Erickson, realizing why a certain coworker hadn’t come in yesterday. “So how long does this…” She gestured to her body. “… last? A week, I guess?”
“Oh, no, not if you don’t want it to,” Clover assured her. “It’ll go away sooner if you decide you don’t like it. But bossman doesn’t know that!”
“I see, I see…” The foxgirl thought about it for a bit. “Eh, what the hell, a week’s fine! I don’t think I look half bad, though I didn’t really mind how I looked before either. Maybe you’ll whisk me away again sometime and I can try out some more forms…?”
“Hehe, I might do just that!” Clover said cheerily. “You should quit your job, by the way!”

Of course! I think it’s a fine idea, and it’d probably be good for me to try writing a trans character, since my comfort zone would be characters like Erickson who have a more lax take on their identity. I don’t know if I’d call myself trans (though I certainly wouldn’t say I’m cis), but it’d be good to try and get down my understanding of transness to see how it actually holds up, instead of only ever writing characters who are like me.
… Maybe that got a bit ramblier than was warranted, lol
