Yeah in Beastars Same Species Couple get special treatment especially rare breeds. It was somekind of commentary on the marriage tax breaks people in Japan get if they marry another Japanese person instead of a foreigner. The girl who bullied Haru in the first episode justified it as Haru endangering her species just because her boyfriend was sleeping around.

Huh. Hadn't gotten around to watching that show yet, I just come from a wildlife conservation background, and especially after seeing another comment here I'd be severely disappointed if species repopulation efforts were being politicized as bigotry.

This is why you DO NOT give shop-lifters a pass. You may assume they're doing it just to make do, but often times, that is far, FAR from the case. Time to take off the kid gloves Mr. Rent-a-Cop.

The amount of money the company (NOT YOU THE EMPLOYEE) loses in shoplifting is already accounted for in their losses. It’s literally not worth the time, money or energy to confront somebody whose shoplifting. Especially because you have no way of knowing what their life is like unless you know them personally. Just let the company eat the cost, they can afford it. Getting into an argument or worse still a physical confrontation could cost you your job, and that’ll lose you more of your personal money than somebody shoplifting ever could.

Eventually those costs they eat, the minute they start to become larger than the company cares for, guess what, they either start letting people go due to budget cuts, or outright close the store like a number of places in certain cities have had too due to rampent shoplifting by organized theft gangs. As someone who's had his place of work shoplifted too many damn times, I feel we're too lenient on shoplifters, especially when a number of them are entitled twits like Brooke in this story. Not every shoplifter is a sob-story somebody who's down on their luck; more often than not, they're just petty people trying to rig the system or outright steal for their own benefit.

The simple fact is that one way or another most people who steal things are doing it to survive.

Companies almost always have insurance for this, and "Shrinkage" is figured into their business expenses. Besides that, most theft is by employees.
