I have decided to give Shadi a sling! The perfect weapon for a street urchin who wants to cause chaos and mayhem! She has probably been using it since childhood, so she's quite good at it. I decided to use the Balearic sling design because I love it so much.
I needed to find a weapon for Shadi (besides her dagger ,of course), but considering she's extremely tiny (1,54 meters tall), melee weapos were out of the question. A bow would be a bit excessive for her, and pistols would be quite expensive and hard to maintain, so a sling felt like the best choice for her. It's cheap, easy enough to make and easy to hide in a pocket or bag.
On a side note, this was some good practice for a "sling throw" pose, which is quite hard to get right.

And that's before you consider different payloads.
Like, the classic 'pepper egg'. Empty an egg and fill it up with irritants. Pepper works best, but is often expensive, so fine sand, flour, ashes and so on will do. One of those and you could walk past a guard. That's just for starters. People will come up with other stuff.
Don't get me started on the possibilities of a fantasy setting.

alternatively, i would've seen her carrying a giant crossbow that knocls her back whenever she tries to use it.
when discussong about it and why she should trade it for something a little more for her sozes, she would quickly respond with "you know, that's exactly the same reason i was able to st... AQUIRE it so easily!"

I use to think slings were f tier garbage.. until my friend from the middle east went hunting with me and was meeting marbles at like Mach 5 and taking out rabbits, wild hogs and it was scary how accurate he was with them more sojust jow he could get it ready and launch..

The thing with slings is that bows are easier for the everyman soldier to use effectively. The thing with bows is that guns are easier for the everyman soldier to use effectively. The thing with guns is that lasers are easier for the everyman soldier to use effectively. The thing with lasers...
Basically, it's not that slings are terrible weapons, it's that it takes more practice and experience (and strength) to be able to use them effectively in combat than, say, a crossbow or rifle, so the average soldier wouldn't be using them. This is also the difference between your average medieval soldier and a knight: Swords were usually used by the latter; the former used spears more often because they didn't have too much training required. You could just shove a spear into somebody's hands as an enemy approaches and they'll be reasonably effective with it should they survive the battle.

She just smashed someone's window, didn't she?
And slings remind me so much of Bowser-Tossing in SM64 - you've got to know the exact moment to release him so he lands on a bomb, and that's really hard to do once you start picking up speed while swinging him.

1.54 m tall? Heck my irl mother was 1.58m and could be a terror when upset - Red haired Norwegian with a temper. Excellent weapon choice for Shadi. Plenty of free ammo laying around - rocks, broken bricks, assorted debris... Somewhere I have a cast lead Roman sling projectile - found in Spain by a professor I knew. Article I read on them states: The Roman army used lead bullets from slings in battle1. These bullets had nearly the stopping power of a modern .44 magnum handgun1. Sling bullets and stones are a common find at Roman army battle sites in Europe2. That sling is certainly more than a window breaker. Good stopper for humans, furres and big lizards.
A formidable weapon with solid projectiles, but even more devastating with even the most basic of improvised flammable payloads! "Greek Fire", essentially the ancient equivalent of napalm, was a mixture of tar, pitch, hog fat, and flax or straw, thrown or slung in thin clay pots or jugs that shattered on impact, and in sufficient quantity, burned long and hot enough to soften and melt the solid brass doors of enemy temples.
Woah! Very interesting concept and outstanding depiction of an underrated ancient weapon!
Honestly, if i was an ancient warrior i'd be more afraid of slings than actual archers, imagine getting a rock to the face at supersonic speed... ç_ç
Respect, really, great art^^

I love slings so muuuuch...
After growing up with archers, sword-wielders, crossbow-wielders, and other such weapons in media and culture it was amazing for me to discover that a ROCK in a SLING was a genuinely effective weapons used contemporaneously with bronze and iron swords, pikes, and axes.
