Computer Monster Iron Claw was a Bio Mechanical Alien Computer who align with Gori in Episodes 53 (for the Grass Monster) and 54 of the Spectreman series; Horror of the Iron Claw and Pulverize the Computer.
Appearances and Abilities
Iron Claw is a Bio-Mechanical Computer and leader of the Weed Men who came from the world of Beta 27; she is from another planet and came to take Uranium and has deemed Humans incapable of Salvation due to their polluted ways. It sided with Gori on the promise he'll send it Home, not knowing the truth of its fate. Iron Claw resembles a transparent blob like creature, with its visible mechanical component inside, it's body is largely cover in a pink cloud, hiding the full aspect of its form, and uses a long tentacles with mechanical claws to dig and attack, as well suck radiation Particles from Uranium. The creature is play by a large puppet. It among the few Giants creatures capable of Speech.
History
An unknown alien force unleashes a disaster on villages across a Forested Country side, in the chaos, a photographer takes pictures of the culprit - a massive Tentacle with a mechanical claw. The Pollution Squad goes to the area to investigate as the readings of the claw seems to indicate high radiation levels as well the signs of some hand behind this. They reach the village of Iniyama and find it roam by Tumbleweeds, and the villagers all gather in a house, they are largely scorn by the Villagers, blaming them for the Pollution, though two Siblings (a brother, Kenny and a blind girl, Nora) beg for their help as they were witnesses to the disaster cause by the Monster, getting nothing but rejection from the Villagers believing the disasters are cause by their God.
The Team as well as the two Children are kicked out; the follow the kids to the hills where they eavesdrop next to a tomb on their circumstances and the death of their mother – leading to a flash back of the Cameraman been attacked by Tumbleweeds which turned out to be the Weed Men, who killed the Cameraman, their Mother and blinded Nora - That's how it seems(?) and dunno how those Photos got to the hands of the Squad – so Massive Plot Holes there.
After the flashback ends, the Children are attacked by the Grassmen but are save by George who fends them from the aggressors. The Pollution Squad comes in to take the kids back to the village as a second group of Weed Men head there; while they warn the villagers, much to their rejection, the Pollution Squad battles the lot of fiends as the villagers come under siege themselves by the Weed Men with many been killed. As George comes to save the Children, the Iron Claw Emerges. He then leads the Villagers to safety, but the residents, despite the words from George, still come to blame the children for everything that has happen.
The group then comes to take refuge in the Shrine, where George learns how the sister got blind, and proposes using an X ray machine, violet ray to cure her, one the boy saw from the Monster's eyes. The Boy runs towards the hole dug by the creature with George, Arthur, John and Otto following him, but soon they all come under attack by the Weed Men (AGAIN).
The Aliens then come together and combine into the Weed monster; the Squad runs into the Tunnel, but a collapse separates John and Kenny from the others and make it to the Weed Men secret Base where they fall unconcious; Meanwhile, George separates from the to Transform into Specterman, and the Cyborg faces the Bad Weed (sorry).
The Monster tries to roll over Spectreman bursting into flames, but the Giant avoids it, then the two have a melee, before the Monsters tangles Spectreman with its roots, but the hero frees himself with Spectre Cutters. The beast tries to Roll over him as a flaming fireball to no avail, as Spectreman extinguishes its manuvuer. Finally, Spectreman uses its Nebula Slice on it and finishes the creature with Spectre Flash. The moment of victory is short live though as the Distraction gets the hero attacked by the Iron Claw. Getting smack down and out for the count. When George is the found by his team, but he can't recognize any of them – the attack having damage his memory.
Quick Note: UUUUUUURRRRRGH! Not this shit!!! This story line is MY least favorite of the series. You'd think an ALIEN CYBORG, would have a Memory back up for this.
After returning to the Shrine, the Villagers continue their slander and accusations of the Children, believing them responsible for everything (for the 12th time), as the Ground shakes, the Survivors evac the Shrine. John and Kenny wake up and leave, but not without getting a glimpse of the machine. Iron Claw emerges again, destroying the Shrine and the creature sends an ultimatum to the Humans, who (AGAAAAAAAIN) are attacked by the Weed Men. Many of the survivors are killed, as the members of the Squad are taken down, while Kim, Nora and George continue their fight in the Dam. Where they are able to fend off the attackers with Kim been knocked out and Nora terrified and crying. John and Kenny come out and while John helps the others, Kenny seeks George – realizing he can't remember, the Boy takes his gun and runs with his sister to try to cure her himself. The two then head towards The Computer Monster, but when trying to cross by swinging with a vine the kids get capture by the Weed Men and are taken to the Computer for interrogation of the whereabouts of Spectreman, who it knows is hidding among the group. When Kenny informs of his motive of coming towards by curing his sister with its rays, The Computer Monster replies it would be fatal to it. Overlord then contacts George (AFTER ALL THIS TIME) has him transform into Spectreman, but still he does not remember and somehow, Gori MISSES George Transforming, still comes to see he suffers from Amnesia. Gori orders Iron Claw to finish Spectreman but the machine subordinates out of arrogance and he is force to send ... THE WEED MEN (AAAAAAAAGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!).
(I want to stress all that entire paragraph above this sentence is a condense summary OF HALF OF THE 2nd EPISODE of this story line – that's how long that fight sequence went).
Condensing ALL of this shit down; Spectreman is attacked like a tosser, the kids free themselves while the G-Men are held by ONE orbiting Tumbleweed. Kenny sees Spectreman in trouble but soon are surrounded by Weed Men; the aliens beat the kids but the two run away with the fiends following, the Children calling for their mother for help.
Spectreman hears their voices and follows them with the Alien on his tail – battling every step of the way. Finally Overlord gets tired of this on going Shit and tells ya boy to grow to his Giant size .... THIS UNDOES THE AMNESIA!!!!!. (Grunts in Anger, and sigh of Relief).
Finally, Spectreman faces The Computer Monster, but in conversation with it, the Machine threatens Spectreman with the death of its Human allies if it continues to interfere with its mission and halt its chances of Returning Home, while ranting about the Pollution of the planet. Spectreman then informs it her home – Beta 27 - was destroyed by a Comet Four years prior. At first, she did not believe this, but following the advice of Spectreman, the Computer comes to see in horror the last image of her world been destroy in such event.
Left speechless, Spectreman Begs the Computer to use its X Ray beams to help heal Nora, would mean its death, but reminds it of the Damage its actions had brought. The Machine naturally protest as it means its death, not to mention doing so for a human. The Cyborg replies if he could he would, but that Ability is not his, but of the Former. Spectreman brings the kids, and the Computer quietly concedes, firing it Rays onto Nora's eyes; she recovers her eyes sight, seeing her brother for the first time, but the Computer Monster keels over and explodes.
After the battle, the kids visit the tomb of their mother for prayer with the Village Elder and the Pollution Squad. The Group screams towards the Valley "Are you there?".
A rant here; Seriously this was the exhacerbating storyline of the show. The previous story with the Igori, which had a similar plot (Aliens working with Gori to acquire Radioactive Minerals) was more entertaining and it was them vs the G-Men with the towns people been use as Soldiers/slave/hostages for their needs, making them a threat albeit NOT by their choice.
But the Weed Men episodes? OH BOY!!
The repetitive fight sequences with the Weed Men (Jumping all the time - WOOSH! WOOSH! WOOOSH!!!) take considerable portion of the Episodes, and add the constant nagging of the Villagers on blaming at every flipping turn the poor kids (who were surprisingly the only descent part of the story line) and the weak ass Amnesia plot of Joji, who somehow is able to fight them without a problem, and you have the most boring story of the show. This should had at least been condense in a single episode.
This is the problem with Spectreman at this point in the series, Gori is not much the focus threat of the plot as much as is his associates who come with their own Troops and Monsters, most are good frankly, but the Doctor takes a backseat for much of these Episodes. This would not be a bad thing, if these stories have been space out along the length of the show, but they decided, for some reason to at the tail of the show, bring other aliens to be a threat.
Really, I had to skip a lot with this one, getting to the points that needed to be mentioned here, and still, took me over 4 hours to deal with TWO 20+ minute episodes.
