Something is deeply, deeply weird about this whole setup and it just keeps getting weirder. My theory just got blown out of the water, but... I think we just met one of Suzucon-sama's research subjects.

What in the Tatarigami's Realm is Suzucon-sama doing to Miyo-san?

My thoughts were that he found her lifeless body washed up on shore and brought her back to life (to an extent anyways) with his magic

And that begs the question: Exactly why? Kitsune do NOTHING out of the goodness of their hearts. Not even KIRIHOKO Roko. What does Suzucon-sama get out of it? Why is Miyo-san unable to sleep? None of this adds up but the picture looks quite sinister.

My theory isn't completely blown out of the water, but even if it's only partially true it means nothing good for anyone.

Miyo IS effectively one of the Heartless. Ayal certainly was.

Miyo is not a Heartless, Miyo is a Nobody. Heartless are comprised of hearts fallen into darkness. Nobodies are the bodies that start to move of their own accord after the heart has been devoured by the Heartless.

Geese, it's like Kingdom Hearts lore is complicated or something.

More a refresher needed. Yeah, Miyo is a Nobody, but it does beg the question who the Heartless is here. (I know who I got my pennies on).

What if (and bear with me on this one), Roko is the (former) Heartless, and Miyo is his Nobody? It is conceivable that lord Suzucon's work lies in the realm of "resurrection" magic. Not to be confused with simply animating a dead body, but actually restoring life into what was lifeless, maybe dead or decaying. Without Roko's soul, and no subsequent initial mana pool, two tails had to be sacrificed to return the body to full functioning condition?

Frankly this whole arc is starting to look like a Stephen King story. This is getting into the realm of existential horror.

Nah, she's a cute little abomination. Hardly a horror.

She's not the horror at all. She's actually a pretty sweet person.

It's what is being done to her that is the horror. Even in the best case, she's basically an undead abomination and doesn't even know it. (So is Roko, for that matter). But the worst case is a whole new kettle of fox gods. The worst case is that she's being experimented on by a complete monster for what may well be a truly horrifying purpose, just because her body was unlucky enough to wash up on his shores.

Roko talks about miracles. I tend to follow the line of the movie Nope: There are such things as bad miracles.

Consider that Roko has Also not been able to sleep since dying.

Well, Roko isn't suffering for it. He's a youkai and lives by different rules, even when he's trapped in a balloon body. Miyo was once a mortal creature that now is trapped in a halfway state between life and death... and it's slowly destroying her.

So, Roko is a soul without a body, and I'm guessing Miyo is a body without a soul.
