10th of July 1959
It was another local election rally night in Tarmingham like any other before with it coinciding with the 59 general election, with a huge crowd gathering outside of the city hull in droves in front of a huge stage for it was the night that their current mayor and Conservative candidate for their city Alistair Lancaster was going to campaign for his re-election as mayor of Tarmingham for another term, with many of them having elected him in the last election having completely convinced everyone of them that the new roads he was constructing for their city through his families road construction conglomerate HighwayStruct through his Roadway Plan was the way forward for their great city that was recovering from the horrors of the last decade. Everyone in the crowd talked excitedly about Alistair's appearance that evening and what he would be giving to them during his speech about what future plans he had for the city and expanding the cities road system for their vehicles to drive on, with some looking forward to seeing their mascot Highgia make her appearance on stage to charm with her smooth, hypnotic, echoing voice. Little did they know the Highgia they would be seeing would be different from the one they originally saw in his previous campaigns and be a lot more modern, attractive and mesmerising.
Backstage the shine of a gleaming chrome bumper and shiny metallic Persian Sand paintwork and lip make up with a pair of brown windscreen eyes with eyelids with eyeliner that gleamed as bright as her paintwork peeped out from behind the royal blue curtains to look out at the crowd of humans and vehicles a like who were waiting eagerly for Alistair to make his appearance on stage and who she would be wooing entertainingly that night. She was a Suddillac Colorado Bordeaux called Regina, a Hollywood car film actress who had recently made a name for herself in Hollywood as the star of her depute film Automobile's of Rich Life. She had come over from Los Angeles to take part in Alistair's re-election rally as part of a contract she had with him and HighwayStruct to become the new appearance and voice of Highgia in his rallies and HighwauStruct's advertising campaigns, as she brought their attention to her after he and HighwayStruct heard about the stir she had caused back in America when the first trailers for her depute film first screened with herself realising that her voice had a hypnotic effect on the male cars who had become quite attracted to her in her staring role that she had seen the papers over there talk about how they were encouraged to go and see the film because they wanted to see herself.
Regina pulled her front end back behind the curtains and turned to look away from the stage. Her massive tailfins gliding gracefully behind her as she did so, as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She looked up at the stage lights shining brightly above her, as her mind wondered off into thought, on the one hand she was excited to be there to present herself as HighwayStructs famous mascot to the crowd before her that night as it was chance for her to promote her depute film to the UK masses and to make herself known to her fellow cars in the UK who would be going out to see the film and probably become life long fans of hers. But at the same time she was nervous about how the vehicles of this strange country she had just arrived in that was so culturally different from America when it came to celebrities and media personalities and where no one knew her yet, would react to her and how she had taken the place of her predecessor in the role as Highgia. She knew full well that many and probably them had come to know the original Highgia that was played by Samantha very well for so long, would they even accept her as the new version of her, or would they despise her for replacing their beloved 233.
And most importantly, was all that she was doing for Alistair and HighwayStruct for a greater good of bringing a car-centric utopia to her own kind like HighwayStruct promised and to deliver these humans including those citizens out there a better future, or was it all some corporate scheme, a lie, set up by them to create an illusion of a utopia in the eyes of these people and to cover up something more devious underneath the façade? After all when Alistair and them were convincing her to sign that contract their wording of this whole thing sounded idealistically appealing, but also pretty suspicious as if they were hiding something much more sinister behind their innocent and spotless road construction firm wanting to improve the world image. If they were hiding something suspicious behind hers and all these peoples and vehicles backs then she would regret ever signing that contract.
She wouldn't have long to think about it all however, as she then heard the crowd cheering loudly on stage as she looked out as the curtain drew aside and Alistair himself made his appearance on stage as he stood in front the podium. Over the next hour, Alistair give his speech about his re-election mayor of Tarmingham and spoke a loud of his future plans for the expansion of the cities road network, as he encouraged the crowd to continue seeing cars as the thing of the future and to keep using in support of the car-centric future he and HighwayStruct were promising to bring them. At the end of his speeches he turned to look at Regina, and she immediately knew from the look on his face what he was about to say. She then heard a hum behind her, as her predecessor Samantha approached her as she said to her; "Your ready to reveal yourself as the new Highgia to the world?"
Through she was still nervous. Regina took a deep breath showing a look of confidence on her face to Samantha and said; "I'm ready Samantha."
"Sentients, ladies. and gentleman! I and my partners at HighwayStruct now present to you, our wonderful car mascot, the one you've all been waiting for tonight and one who has helped influence you all into continuing to show support for my company and it's cause to bring all a better motoring future! I presented to you all HIGHGIA!!! And not just the one you all know and love, but her design is new and improved as she is now played by our new led for her who is one of Hollywood's newest stars who's come all the way from LA tonight, REGINA!!!" Alistair proudly announced as he stepped aside as the podium was moved aside as Regina rolled stunningly on stage to the crowd of cheering spectators. She knew it was time to see if the world would accept her as the new Highgia.
As the cheering died down and the music started playing, Regina took a deep breath and began to let her alluring and soft voice out for the crowd to hear as she said slowly and smoothly; "Good evening Tarmingham... It is me Highgia and I' am new... and improved... and it is such an honour to once again be here tonight to tell you all how great HighwayStruct's tarmac and efforts to improving your cities streets and road system are and the great autoing future their bringing you and your personal vehicle... with you all being a part of it all... by contributing to this car-centric movement with your own personal vehicle and buying new cars to drive on the roads we cars run on..."
Regina continued to speck hypnotically into the microphone to the crowd as she rolled seductively around the stage, her tailfins catching the light above her and the attention of the other cars in the crowd who were amazed and mesmerised by them as they moved gracefully like a pair of long tails of a fox behind her as she looked at the crowd smiling sly as she continued; "Once upon a time in the distant past... We cars were seen as the least in transportation technology... As we've evolved we have become symbols of personal freedom for those who drive us, but we have become the ultimate thing of progress of the way forward for every persons transport need to go places in the 20th century... However, this new found freedom that everyone saw in us was being held back, as the roads we started running on... and still run on today all over the world are also still our kinds unfortunate nemesis... Underdeveloped, to where many of them hinder our speed potential... to where they are slow... rough... dirty... and muddy that it ruins our lovely painted coats with stains and stretches... Those that are paved to allow of our higher speeds are passed their usefulness as they are crumbling and becoming riddled with potholes that burst our neatly kept tires with chrome trim plates on them wanting to prevent us from going anywhere... Force our owners to get into the dirt to constantly replace them when they do... Often drenched in the rain... Oh... how it often hurts me to see my owner having to replace my tires in the rain and me having wash off after having my perfectly clean fittings be covered with the stains of all those dirty puddles I splashed through on the way home..."
Regina paused for a moment to look out over the crowd, and she could see within their eyes that her hypnotic voice was working on them as they still had their heads looking directly at her, and she could see that some where had began to become charmed by her elegant appearance and allure as their faces looked flashed as if they could gaze at her for hours on end. As she then continued alluringly; "It isn't just country roads that are obsolete and hinder us cars... The streets of many cities across the world are small and cramped and not up to standard with us cars progressing the car-centric world of the future... Britain's cities are the most notorious for having such outdated narrow, dark and dungy streets that were never designed to take cars of our size and prowess... Not like the wide open spacious boulevards of my home city of LA, and can see it with my own eyes while driving around this city today... I could barely swing my tailfins around every tight bend I came across as I felt my long rear end mount the curve and sanding a sharp pain into my rear undercarriages springs that I had to stop and recover from, with worse possible outcome being to scrape one of my fins on the bollards that would cost my a hefty sum to get it repainted and have the dents knocked out..."
"But that's not the worse every car on the planet has to endure..." Regina continued doing well to sound musing and dramatic, "For there is one last thing that hinders us from achieving our potential and bringing you all the freedom we bring to you... A previous mode of transportation who once considered themselves to the most dominate way of traveling on land and held the title of being the symbol of freedom for those who rode aboard them... Until we cars and our owners realised that they weren't as free to take people directly to the places they wanted to go as they thought, as they are restrained by the very thing that guides them to where they are only allowed to go... And what they run on is something that's underneath your feet in these streets that are always in the way of us cars as we try to take you all places in this city, and above you on those old worn out overhead viaducts this city is full of that carry them and their bumpy old passenger cars on, but cross our roads on ground level that block our path and slow us down to get anywhere... They are what we call trains and in the streets trams, or streetcars and interurbans where I come from, and those things they run on rails, have always restrained them in where they can directly take you... and have always been a nuance to us cars with their street running tracks always getting them in the way of us and their level crossings always slowing us down... Their constant road hogging is slowing the progress and the car-centric future my kind are bringing to you all in this world and propelling society forward into the future... I see this more commonly in my home city of LA, and how it pains me to see these outdated contraptions that run on these guided restrictive rails of there's in the streets block my fellow cars way"
She took a pause again as she saw within the crowd that some of the human men were beginning to form tears in their eyes, as her emotional talk as Highgia and alluring voice was starting to get the better of them, and the male vehicles in the crowd were also becoming emotionally attracted to her, as she then continued; "Seeing these cars and these owners suffer, I knew I had to find someone who could do something about all these problems they face that was holding back my kinds progress towards a great autoing future... And that was when I found Alistair Lancaster here and his road construction corporation HighwayStruct, and that they told me they were there to help improve my kinds situation, through the use of their specially and chemically designed asphalt that was made to last for more than fifty years without requiring any repairs and to be as smooth for cars and other vehicles to drive on without any of the rough spots that come with most other competing asphalts from competitors... They told me that they wanted to help improve cars and the owners problems they've been having for years, including those involving the trains and trams... In 48 they embarked on a mass highway and road improvement program across my home country to construct new and improved roads for us cars and their owners, along with newly constructed dedicated Highways and freeways that are separated on their own right of way without the railroads level crossings and the long trains that use them getting the way of our smooth path of our nations growing greatness... And without trams getting in our way and holding us up every second to make a quick passenger stop pick up an unfortunate few who use them... While also working with local and state governments to improve major cities roads by removing the trams entirely in a humanin manner and ripping up the old interurban lines they run on so the citizens and automobiles of these cities can get an old relic of a bye gone era out of town and in with the new way forward into the future for them with roads connecting to newly construct suburbs many American cities are constructing as their populations boom... With me Highgia encouraging all those aspiring autoists to support HighwayStructs ambitions of improving us cars lives by electing officials who support us as the way forward and HighwayStructs plans to improve their citizens lives for the better... As they know you don't want to continue ridding those out of date metal boxes and steam boilers on wheels, on their bumpy old rails now... as I know you all want to keep up with progress and transition to us cars as the new norm for long distance travel on land... And with HighwayStruct expanding their ambitions outside of the US with the improvement of your city I' am in tonight being one of them, other cars and their owners all over the world will be able join in on their car-centric future and show they are creating an age of progress for us automobiles... And with their ambition making progress her in Tarmingham and you all want to see it continue, I encourage you all to continue to support HighwayStructs efforts to improve your city, and your vehicles lives by voting for Alistair and buy yourself your first car so you can have the same personal freedom like so many others who have gotten there's and experience the true freedom being able to go anywhere without stress as we and HighwayStruct build our great autoing future!"
After finishing her long inspiring speech and Regina fell silent. Every human in the crowd was so touched my her inspiration word and alluring voice that one man in the crowds cried as said; "How touching... She is right I must join in on this motoring boom and go out and buy my first car to bring Tarmingham into the great motoring future Alistair is promising, and I'm certainly voting for him!"
"Wow her lovely Californian accent is so alluring, she has truly won me over that I just want to reach out on stage and touch her shiny front bumper..." said another man who was deeply admiring Regina as he reached his hand out to touch her bumper and pull himself on stage, but his girlfriend held him down in disgust. "Keep your hands of her Ben, and do not fall for her voice or looks! She is nothing but a Hollywood show off!" she snapped.
"Oh she's so pretty, I wish I could get on stage to give her tailfins a good rubbing..." said another man with his arms hanging and his body bent low.
"Mummy mummy! I want us to have a car like Highgia and please vote for Alistair in the election please for the motoring future their promising!" screamed a young boy to his mother who was taken by surprise by this reaction.
"Oh great and mighty Highgia with your beautiful looks and lovely voice that has captivated us tonight! The lord has blessed you and I will defiantly being revoting for Alistair so he and HighwayStruct can continue creating the bright future for this city they so promise for our fellow cars and we the people of Tarmingham!" said another man who was a local reverend as he put his hand on his chest and his hand with praise.
Even some cars who had been watching and listening to Regina were now completely flashed and charmed by her as one said; "Her voice is so alluring and she looks so hot and her tailfins make her even hotter than the previous Highgia... I really want to get close to her and give them a good stroke!..."
"She's so beautifully attractive, I really love her tailfins..." said another cooingly.
"Her chrome is so shiny, and goes well with her shiny paintwork... I can look at her for hours if not years without ever looking away..." said another.
"I would certainly want her as my mate she's so gorgeous..." said another.
"So... luxurious, alluring and beautiful..." said another.
But a few other vehicles among them where not buying into Reginas charm and appeal, as they could see through the façade that she was lying on behalf of HighwayStruct, being able to see what their true intentions were underneath, as one said angrily; "Oh come on all you pathetic humans do not fall for the lies this pretty Suddillac is telling you through her charms! This corporate mascot she is masquerading as for this firm she's representing isn't trying to bring this city or anyone not even us cars a better future, and is really trying to send this city down a path of devastation and ruin! All American corporations with their executives and marketing teams lie to you all through schemes likes this, do not heed them!"
But despite their words, most in the crowd weren't listening to their criticism, their eyes continuing to remain glued on Regina as the crowd cheered for her, as some went wild and scrambled to get close to her as possible. In their minds this new Highgia had well and truly succeed in influencing them into re-electing their current mayor for another term in office in the upcoming election. So he could continue bringing their city new and improved roads and bringing that car-centric utopian future he and HighwayStruct promised them and seemed to be bringing into reality with the progress they had seen over the last term. As the crowd continued to cheer her, Regina stood their looking over them with a smug smile on her face, they had well truly accepted her as the new Highgia and they were completely hypnotizingly charmed by her voice that they fell for every word she said to them about her corporate clients greatness and promises. She felt a sense of empowerment within her in that moment, and she knew that if she kept the same attitude up in HighwayStructs future marketing campaigns and Alistair's rallies in the next election if he won this election. But as she looked at the crowd looking all glamorous in front of the citizens of Tarmingham, little did she know that her new found stardom as Highgia would eventually led to her other roles on the big screen being overshadowed and her to eventually to hate the role and regret signing that contract once she found out about Alistairs and HighwayStructs true intentions behind their plans. As she went to tell the audience to go and see her depute big screen appearance.
