Obviously the Silver Centurion armor had multi-use force fields- including shields that could be reshaped to make the armor aerodynamic! Hard-Light/holographic armor shows up once and a while- often filling the gaps between hastily thrown on armor components. The effects in this pict look a bit like his hold thermal screens- looking like laser nets that deter ice-attacks. Then there was the Swarm, that Tony devoloped after the 'Dark Reign' crossover, that was composed of freefloating nanomachines with Ironman tech. (each with it's own itty bitty arc reactor) The Swarm's primary use was to be a literal 'Data Cloud' server, but they could coordinate a combined attack, in which they 'litterally' smote the Mandarin in a beam of light from on high. In theory, the Swarm should be able to combine and adapt into any number of defensive devices. Using EM fields or gravity distortion to confuse targeting devices could be pretty fun too.
