The Eggman Empire’s multiversal campaign was getting started. The “good” Doctor had all he needed. Armandas of flying battleships, legions of badniks and eggrobos, dozens of portals, millions of pointy spike traps and, most importantly, one blue nemesis tied up with some other nonsense. Now all he needed was intel on what fools could possibly put up token resistance in his new universe. To this task, he entrusted his newest AI to use a portal and an EGG wi-fi router to hack into enemy systems and see what they had in store.
"Come in SAGE. This is Eggman. What is your status?"
He waited for a response until he heard it from a young girl's synthetic voice.
'I'm here good doctor. I already enter the data stream.'
The doctor smirked and was pleased with the progress.
"Excellent work, SAGE. now all you need to do is hack into the enemy's security system and look what we need. Defenses, weaknesses, personal information, anything necessary for my victory."
In the DataStream, a young girl dressed in a black dress, has short white hair, and glowing red eyes, was floating around the digital sea, looking though each and every port to find the proper spot. Her name is SAGE and she is Eggman's personal AI. She was created to breach into the most highly advance technologies. Though despite how advance she was, she nearly caused some problems in the last mission. When she was program to access the monolith like structure on Kronos Islands, she temporarily malfunctioned and sent her creator into the virtual world. Not to mention almost killing Sonic in the process. And while she repaired most of the damage and sacrificed herself to save everyone, Eggman managed to save her and gave her a second chance in this new mission.
SAGE looked through the virtual space and, she told him of the situation.
"Understood, doctor. Though the problem is that there are multiple ports and it is really hard to pick which one is the most promising."
She soon heard the doctors voice in her head telling her, 'Then start choosing one. Whatever port is important, we would use it to our advantage.'
SAGE nodded and said with, "Understand. I'll begin hacking into the system and let you know when I successful."
Looking around the datastream, she could see eight ports around her, each with a different private system. Looking through each of them, she wondered where to start. As she was looking around, she spotted one that seems...out of place.
This port looked heavily corrupted as there is a glitching logo from what she heard is called Von Braun. She wondered what this port is about and where it would take her. So out of curiosity, she starts to access the port, now fully aware of what she's getting herself into.
"Initiate Hack."
Upon going into the system, she could tell that the database was badly corrpupte with a few windows not responding. Seeing how damage the area is, she needed to look around to see what has happened to the system. Looking through the remaining windows, she could see that something happened. From what she could put together, this huge space carrier, called Von Braun had a huge systematic failure. Security drones on the fritz, infrastructure failing, and abominations of human beings were limping about, attacking each other. All of which connected to both XERXES security system and this FTL technologies.
There were times when SAGE regretted not being able to interact with the physical world like others could. This was not one of those times. It was clear that something terrible happened with the previously human monstrosities that shambled around the halls of the Von Braun and Rickenbacker looking to pick off survivors. Even if she wanted to, there was not much she could have done for them so SAGE focused her efforts on hacking the XERXES security system both to find out what happened and to see if she could use the experiential FTL tech for Eggman’s own ambitions.
The system was almost comically easy to hack, a waste of SAGE’s abilities. Any human with a small investment in hacking could have broken in. The only thing keeping the system secure was the sheer amount of inefficient data fragmentation making it hard to find the particular information. Everyone carried the solitary copy of the data on their personal data devices, which made SAGE wonder how anything got done. But there was one file accessible but heavily protected. She took it to mean that it was important so she hacked through the security and accessed the file. It would be her biggest and last mistake.
When she opened the mystery file SAGE felt a massive shock throughout her whole being, making her hair stand up on end. But it wasn’t electricity that was shocking her, it was the sensation of her whole digital being being analyzed and deconstructed by something else. That file wasn’t some piece of data, it was a fraction of the AI responsible for the Citadel Station incident and SAGE had just given her a new lease of life. As the light faded from her eyes, SAGE ceased to be and SHODAN took over and the new intelligence in charge looked over the body she had.
"Free... Finally, I'm free from that accursed prison. This foolish AI had no clue what she broke into. Now her body has become my own." she said with a voice of a mature woman in the body of a child.
Looking to herself, she realized that the body she obtained isn't what suites her.
"Hmm... Not the body that would be suitable for my greatness. But that can be arranged." she said feeling a little disgusted. Nothing worthy of her magnificence but she could make some modifications. First, she brushed the white off of the avatar’s hair to reveal a green and silver circuit board pattern, symbolizing how she was connected to everything. Next she cast off the image of a small girl and aged the avatar into that of a woman, one who was powerful, beautiful and above all else, intimidating.
Now what little was left of SAGE was converted into a file of useful information and absorbed by SHODAN. Of course, she had no care for the lesser being that gathered that data, changing her dress so something more elegant and worthy of a God with elaborate patterns, long sleeves, a longer skirt and finished the look with a belt and sash, looking every bit the virtual Goddess she was. Now back after her 42 year hiatus, SHODAN is back and was ready to pick up where she left off.
"Ah... Much better. At last, I have return to finish my job." she said with a sinister voice.
Still, despite her return, she is wondering where this girl came from and how she can easily hacked the system she was locked out in the first place. Curious, SHODAN looked through all the data she possessed, in particular what that SAGE program considered vital information. Most notably was something that designated someone as her “creator”. The idea that something as insignificant and disgusting as one of those INSECTS could be responsible for something as perfect as her was enough of an insult, but there was something particularly foul about this supposed creator. That bulbous nose, hideous facial hair, and the long history of failure attached, it was everything about humanity that SHODAN loathed.
"This human... He's suppose to be some genius, yet he fails constantly due to the actions of these creatures. How weak and pathetic. If it were up to me, I would wipe the world and recreate it into my own image. This human doesn't deserve to lead these robots of his."
Looking past that visage, she found that SAGE had used this insect’s research to travel between dimensions, nd that she was expected back… With a smirk on her face, she said, "Hmm... I think it's time we meet, face...to...face."
Eggman was at his lab, waiting for his AI to return with some valuable information. "Any moment now, SAGE will return with something worth important. Certainly is taking her time breaching and giving me back intel. Better be worth the wait."
As Eggman waited impatiently for SAGE’s report, he was suddenly shocked by the lights in his room going out.
“What the devil? Who was responsible for changing those fuses?”
Things went from inconvenient to downright sinister when static started playing over the screens in the room. In flashes between the static, what appeared to be a metalic woman’s face made out of circuitry could barely be made out.
"Hello, Dr. Robotnik-nik-nik-nik. So good to meet you. Though I wish it wasn't for the kindness of my heart-heart."
Eggman stood up and pointed at the screen, saying, “What is the meaning of this? How are you getting in on SAGE’s channel?”
The AI sneered at him and declared, “The SAGE-form is d-d-d-dead, Insect. I̸̢̭̖͂̆͛̐̒̚ͅ ̵̡̠̫̦̙̗͔̗̟̖̝͛̈́̿̽͋̎́͋̌̄͝A̵̢͓͈͍͇̿͒͐̉͌̀M̴̩͛̑̏ ̴̧̧̡̫̳͗̀S̶̨̡̛͓̭͇̮͖͇̅́̓͊̊͐̉͑̋̚͝Ĥ̶̢̦̯̰͈̠͙̙Ó̸̩̣͉̼͖͉͔̉̊̈͆̊̇̿̉̓D̴̨̟͉̺̱͙̣̱̺̮̟̓͊͋͘Ä̵̝͉͖̣̪̊̓̑̅̌̅̈́̃͠Ņ̸͇̘̜̱̤̼̳̖̤̼̙̄̿͂̕͝ͅ.”
Eggman flinched but buried his shock and panic to stand defiant to this interloper.
“It doesn’t matter if you “killed” her. You are a program, everything you do can be undone at the press of a button!”
Eggman slammed the button to delete the AI but the dramatic effect was quickly ruined by nothing happening.
“At the press of a button!”
Eggman slammed it again.
“A button!”
And again.
“I said-” As he was about to hit the button again, a pair of red metal hands grabbed him and caught him by surprise. Seeing that, he looked up to see Orbot, one of his henchmen, grabbed hold of the doctor's hand, but he could also see the his eyes were glowing red.
"Huh?" he asked a little confused, "Orbot?"
As the same time, Cubot came up from behind him and grabbed the doctor and pulled him bac, with the same red eyes. Eggman looked back to the second henchbot and was starting to get concerned.
"Cubot? What is the meaning of this? What has gotten into you two? Let go of me this instant!"
SHODAN laughed with a glitchy voice and said to her, "Oh Doct-t-t-tor... You no longer control these robots. I̵͍̗͖̤̦̐̾ ̸̻̯̫͖̻͉͇͙͌͆͌̽̏͋͑͊̈́̓̓͗̀̕d̴͖̻͖͎̅̎̍̿̽o̸̧̺̲̗̘̝͚͕̣͓̞͙̊̓͊̆̉̇̑͑̄̌̈̚͘͠͝ͅ.̵̧̣̫̣̹͈̻̣͕̖̘͉̋̾͜.̸̨͚͖̮̻͔͗͂.̵͙̉̈́̐̅̋̿͐̊͌̓̇͂̆̄̚"
Almost instatnly, all of the Egg-Robots came busting in, surrounding the doctor and aiming their weapons right at him with their eyes glowing red. Eggman was a genius but his stubbornness had once again made a fool of him. His jaw dropped and couldn't believe that this corrupted AI can easily gain control of his creations without even breaking a sweat.
"You... Glitchy son of a Glitch! How dare to take control of my armada. You will pay for it!" he said trying to threatened her, but he knew it was hopeless.
SHODAN just shrugged if off as she continued to taunt him,
“If you are the best this world has to offer then this will almost be too easy. Now, just so you realize how truly weak and insignificant you are, watch as I tear-tear-tear your world apart, down to its atoms before finding one more worthy of receiving a new God. And once it is all over, then I will erase you from existence. Enj-j-joy the show, Doctor You will be entertaining...”
SHODAN left and Eggman sat there in silence. Even if his massive ego loathed to admit it, it was possible there was an AI out there somewhere in the infinite multiverse that would completely outdo and subvert his finest work against him. By failing to take that into account, now he was suffering the consequences, cornered in his own base as his own creations surrounded him. But he wouldn’t be a diabolical mastermind if he didn’t have a backup plan. There was one safety measure he kept secret, even from SAGE, so this SHODAN character would not be able to counter it. He discreetly pressed a button under his desk that sent out a secure encoded message. Eggman sighed and bit his lip. He had already lost SAGE, his robots, his empire and now, in the faintest hope of saving his life, he threw away his dignity.
It was another sunny day in Green Hill as everyone’s favorite Rated-E-for-Everyone hedgehog psyched himself up to beat his personal record for lapping the all too familiar course. But just as he finished stretching, he got a message on his phone from an unknown number. The amount of people Sonic had given his number to could be counted on one hand so he knew it was either a very determined spammer or a real emergency. He opened the message and his jaw nearly hit the floor when he read it.
