Wow, this is interesting. And somehow, it reminds me of the headless creature design from Final Fantasy 12 - those guys that are a little taller than your characters.

Buuuuut... I really can't understand, why headless-bird looks like headless-man x')

There is some in-game info in the bestiary about some of these creatures. Usually, you'll read some "background history" about ONE creature in a "group" ("design group" ), and it will include some backhistory on why it is how it is in the present day and such (along with raising several questions like "why aren't my characters getting PWNED every other second by these things, and running around smothered in bruises and blood like Kratos of God of War fame?" XD).

They're pretty much some things that were charged with "heavenly implicating" duties and generally "doin' people right," but then they started getting a kick outta seeing us trip over our own feet (lol), and DA HEAVENLIES got mad and hacked off their domes and chained up their bodies where their necks are supposed to be, and made them walk around with useless wings so they would get laughed at by passerbys...

...or something to that effect. XD
