I wrote this story in 2004, which appeared in regular updates about once a week in my old A Writer's Block website. This was done in the same story universe as a small novel I did earlier, a space-travellers tale "The Gambler and The Psi," about the adventure of two feline women. Of their race, the Mymar, think beings much like Star Trek's Caitians, but with heeled feet that were a couple inches longer than human.

In the history of their species, I'd written that their race had originated on another planet, but centuries before while the planet was in a Medieval state, a tradeship had to stop to make repairs, ended up befriending a group of refugees running away from a vicious warlord, and not only transported them to an uninhabited new world, but contacted other ships and got a total of a hundred thousand to safety, and promised to keep the place a secret, leaving this world, Absolin, left alone for centuries.

I had the idea to write a story taking place on the planet during this time. Partially inspired by a story I'd read, it's the tale of a young farmer who finds a special friend.
