The Oath of the Serpent

In the shadowed depths of the Valley of Shadows lies the Serpent's Coil, where the ancient order of the Hissed Guard stands vigilant. Guardians of sacred Yuan-ti temples, they wield sword techniques bestowed by Sseth, the serpent deity himself.

Awakened from an ageless slumber—stirred by earth-shaking tremors or perhaps the will of Sseth—the Yuan-ti remember little of their past. Echoes of battle cries, lush jungles, and an all-consuming silence haunt their minds. United by an unwavering devotion to the blood god Sseth, they recall seeking refuge within the temple. Yet, the inner sanctum remains sealed behind an impenetrable door, accessible only with the legendary weapon, the Scaled Razor. Sseth remains silent about its secrets, but all know they must unlock it.

Among them, young Ssarith, a Yuan-ti Abomination, was a prodigious disciple of the Hissed Guard. During his rigorous training, he discovered a forbidden chamber housing ancient Elven scrolls on Bladesinging—arcane swordplay of mesmerizing beauty. Enchanted, he fused these techniques with his ancestral arts, forging a new and deadly dance of blades.

His secret did not stay hidden. Branded a betrayer of their sacred traditions, the Hissed Guard could not bear the disgrace of executing one of their finest. Instead, they exiled Ssarith on a dangerous quest to retrieve the fabled weapon. Marked with a glowing blue arcane band that declares his mission to all Yuan-ti, he cannot return without the artifact said to hold the power of the serpent gods and the key to the inner sanctum. Hissarion, Champion of the Hissed Guard, deemed this exile a sentence of certain death.

However, deep within, Ssarith recognized this exile as his ultimate trial and embraced it with open arms. Liberated from the constraints of the Serpent's Coil, he is unleashed upon the world to execute his glorious, bloody mission in Sseth's name. The unsuspecting races have no clue of the storm that approaches as he moves to extend the serpent god's dominion, culling the masses of ignorant beings who dismissed the Yuan-ti and their deity as mere legends. With every life he extinguishes, he draws nearer to the Scaled Razor and furthers a darker design. Ssarith seeks to reawaken the world's fear of the serpent's supremacy, carving a path marked by the downfall of those who have forgotten their true masters.
