Losing a pet, overseas. I joke around that I've been cursed, as it's the 5th animal I've lived with and couldn't say goodbye to. Loss and homesickness go hand in hand.
I lose a pet roughly every major life event, which could be considered poetic, if it wasn't washed with irony. Sort of a catalyst, mind you. Lots Of Stuff's been going around past few years for me, and this crumb approached like an impending footnote- just enough of a rumble, to wake up whatever's hiding in the muck. There was one more I missed the passing of, but it didn't shake me as much. He was old, and I anticipated it. This one, she just got damn cancer out of nowhere, and her body gave up after few surgeries.
Lol yeah enjoy the art I guess? Felt good to draw her little pitter-patters, and forever scared eyes.

I'm seeing the end of my cat's life as she's dealing with poor health. Its bitter sweet because she's settled down in contrast to how our prior cats have run away into the sunset. I'm trying to treasure the little time we have left as she fades away at home.
As painful as it's source is, I like how the art fades the shadows, the light, and the trail she left behind.

a difficult experience, for sure - made all the more challenging by needing to have it happen second hand, rather than being able to experience those final moments in person.
there's a lot to be said about this sort of thing. plenty of silver linings - about how it gets easier with time, and those fond memories you'll always have of past times together. these are all true, though they can be of little comfort actually in the moment.
I hope making this piece has helped you weather the emotional storm, whether through catharsis by having made it, or simply acting as an outlet for all you're currently feeling.
