I think that all artists here - musicians, writers, and visual artists - have experienced a frustrating block where nothing you put down seems to come out right, and they can come at any time, even when you really want to get something finished. That's been happening to me over the last week, with Crystal Towers 2 honestly needing only one more bit of music done before being declared complete.
Then I discovered a Megadrive (Amr: Genesis) sound font this morning - which you can get here - and it was exactly what I needed to break through it. My aim with the soundtrack was always to produce something that sounded Megadrive-like, and for the last bit of music for the game, I think I've gone the furthest towards achieving that. Now I just need to resist the temptation to go back and stylize all the existing music further!
The introduction might have been a bit inspired by 2 Minutes to Midnight.

So close! I have what I think is a finished version, and just need to play through the thing making minimal adjustments, making sure not to change anything that could later affect anything else. Then I'll put it out, and suddenly find myself wondering what to do in my free time :)
Thanks for your support - it's great to know that people enjoyed the demo so much, and I'm hoping that I'll get some attention for the last four years!

Oh, I know that feeling all too well!
Sound to me like you have done an awesome job nonetheless!
It's pretty awesome that you're making your own game! That's incredible! That's actually exactly what I want to be able to do. Though I need the programs to do it, and new video cards for my computers.

Thanks! I'm a coder professionally, though for business software rather than games - I realized a few years ago that what I really wanted to be was a game developer in the early 90s, and so it's something I just do independently now. Most of my game work is done in Multimedia Fusion 2, which I'd definitely recommend for experimentation if you want to try something out - they also have a free version on Newgrounds :)
That sounds like an interesting job as well. Anything with programing or dealing with a computer's system sounds interesting to me. I find computers so amazing with all they can do! The only thing is I hardly know anything about them ^^; I especially like the thought of making games though because you can literally create your own world!
Thanks for that info! I'll definitely look into getting that software!

I've always been leery of the Genesis soundfont, since few games I actually played tended to have music ranging from "okay I guess, but the SNES is better" to questionable. I take it as a testament to your skill that you were able to take it and do something this good with it. :)
I definitely see this being good boss battle music--it's just epic enough to signify that a major battle is happening (and be just plain fun to listen to) without being so overpowering that it gets in the way and distracts you when you're trying to not get killed.

I love the Genesis sound. It's so... inhuman and weird, but so distinctive - it might be because I grew up with it and have the nostalgia to associate with these unearthy groaning noises. There's just something amazing about the way it did rock/metal type music, even with that demented interpretation of a lead guitar that I'm happy to now use here. I often catch myself thinking that Zero Wing has really good drumming before remembering it's just filtered white noise.
