Along w/ my Rito Ranger, at Lvl.3, he also had a small drake since the subclass I chose was Drakewarden.
Since in the LoZ:BotW setting, I designed her to be an eastern style dragon like the other 3: Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra.
But w/ mine, I made her cute and fluffy as her first stage.

The game didn't last long enough to see the next stage at Lvl.7, but also story-wise, he did 3 rituals to help her be powerful later.
The last ritual was basically to release her back to the spirit/dragon realm, which he did after a huge battle that almost cost my ranger's life.
It was better this way, otherwise if my character died before the rituals are finished, basically another "Volvagia" would have appeared.
They would reunite in the future, but when, who knows.
