The region around Pittsburgh is one of my favorite in the US. With the gently sloping mountains/hills and the towns perched between them, its quite beautiful.

I think the entire 'Appalachian' region(s) are beautiful, in their own ways. These tiny towns, lots of them grounded in the coal industry or agriculture, though the economy has been hammering the snot out of them for decades, is so rooted in time, generations of families who persist and through their sheer stubbornness/determination, continue to eke out a living.
I realize many of them are succumbing. That is a tragedy anywhere it happens.
For those still in the fight? Respect!
