Reposted with permission. My customer wanted a huge battle scene with WWI-ish adventurers and allies fighting illithid commanders with bio-mechanical armored goblins, and was really specific about "and an illithid eating some guy's brain!" Since I grew up with a lot of WH40K art where someone central has a big banner, the flag is intended to be alternate reality vaguely-ANZAC.

Thanks! It wasn't literally intended to be Warhammer... but after years of soaking in 40K art, getting a commission request like this, what else was gonna come out, ya know?

Wow this looks awesome! I grew up playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle and all these guys look like believable units.

The melee guy with sabre and shovel is especially clever.

Not directly, but that was one of the big covers, right? So it was one of the whole "heros stand in big pyramidal formations shooting at opponents" influences.
