I remember those 'extras' (or 'extra-larges') from Disney's "Robin Hood". The rhinos were usually guards, while the elephants were heralds (using their trunks to trumpet an arrival or the start of a major event). The hippos, as I recall, were usually beating drums; having not seen the film in years, I forget what else they did...
