He saw something pink bobbing up and down below him. Most things did not catch his eye, but this did. Was it cotton candy on someone's head or perhaps just a wig? Either way, it was intriguing to the grey and red squirrel.
So, he decided to follow it. He jumped from limb to limb, making sure to always keep the interesting pink thing insight. There was nothing next to it, although every so often he caught the sight of green fur. What was this amazing creature?
It stopped for a moment, so he crawled to the very edge of a limb and looked down. Had there been a noise? Was there something coming? His head darted around, trying to find out what was going on.
There it was! A mad fur running through the park, bag above his head, knife facing forward. It was going right towards his pink thing's form! Rhedd had to do something. So he did what any reasonable squirrel would do. He jumped.
The sun behind him, the pink thing below him, the crazed fur just down the path; it felt so good! Perhaps this is what the heroes always felt like. As he got closer his eyes made out a more feminine figure attached to the pink, green cat like ears poking out from the mass of head fur. He tried to stop, not wanting to land on the cat, for that was never good, but it was to late.
Rhedd collided into the object he had been following this whole time, pushing her out of the way of the mad fur, but instead wound up in the pond. He could hear her cough so he scrambled back, the action in vain since he was just splashing more water everywhere. His eyes never left the pink topped cat though.
“What was that?” she said testily.
“Umm, well, rescue? The knife, you know?” the squirrel took a deep breath, “I'm Rhedd.”
“Oh, well, I suppose that is so. I'm Andromida,” she stuck out her paw, “Thank you Rhedd.”
Rhedd took her paw and smiled, feeling warmed by her touch despite them both being wet. Had he found his thing to follow forever? He thought so.
Flash fiction for
of his characters, Andromida and Rhedd of the first time they met. I'm also graced to be the first one to write these characters *blush*
