Snow had finally come to town. After months of sweltering heat and lukewarm days that held winter out in front of the people like a piece of bacon to a dog on a chain, Winter had finally come, breathing its merciful, cold winds through the streets and allowed its holy white snow to descend from the heavens. It was a joyous occasion for all.
Oh did I say for all? I’m so sorry dear reader, I lied. I meant to say it was a joyous occasion for all EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE STICK IN THE MUD-
Excuse me-
As I was saying; the first snowfall of the year was a cause for much celebration for most, all except for this one creature by the name of Wiwi.
Though really, you couldn’t blame the poor critter. Being a blob that was held into a conceivable form by a cat onesie didn’t really make for the most comfortable of winters. She could solidify for goodness sake! That would be an utter tragedy.
So sadly, Wiwi just couldn’t enjoy the winter like most. She couldn’t hibernate either, so she spent most of her winter days hiding in a random room in her house, wrapped up in as many blankets as possible.
Today was no different. Today she had picked the bedroom closet to hide in. Wiwi sat in the corner of it, barely recognizeable under all of the blankets, she shivered dreadfully, fearing that she could just up and coagulate out of nowhere.
“G-Got to be something else I can do…” Wiwi whimpered. She’d tried everything to make a more comfortable winter. Blankets, cocoa, joyful music, nothing worked to warm her nonexistent bones.
Oh, and you can forget about any heating systems. Wiwi was flat broke. Especially since she couldn’t work in the winter. It was a wonder she still had electric lights by this point.
Eventually though, in her shivering, the poor blob ended up whamming her body and blankets into the wall, causing something above her on a shelf to start shaking. She assumed it was a spare jar of some kind.
…Well, Wiwi would get a chance to investigate it further when it fell right off of the shelf and hit her in the head before rolling off of the blanket pile and landing on the other side of the closet.
Wiwi (after swearing several times) slowly peeled off the blankets from her head and looked to see what had hit her.
It seemed to be a glass ball of sorts, painted with translucent paint. The top half was red, the bottom was white, and there was a black line dividing it.
“…A glass pokeball?” Wiwi asked the air. “Did I get that at a flea market or something?”
She scooted herself and her blankets over to it and slowly picked it up. Upon doing so, a tiny flame lit up inside of it, causing Wiwi to nearly drop it.
“What the-?” She sputtered as she watched the tiny flame dance within the glass ball. It was oddly mesmerizing, comforting as well, like watching a campfire roar.
(“If only it could provide any ACTUAL heat…”) Wiwi lamented.
But then something odd happened; the flame inside began to grow, and the ball began to grow warmer.
“Woahh…” Wiwi cooed in wonder. She set the ball down in front of her, allowing it to heat up the closet.
(“Man that flame is so….so wonderful…”) Wiwi found herself thinking. She was fixated on that fire. That wonderful, roaring pyre concealed within that glass prison.
(“Wish I could…embody it…”) She thought. And on cue, more strange happenings began to occur.
While the closet was nice and toasty by now, Wiwi’s body didn’t get any less solid. In fact, it seemed to solidify even more. Her outer layer of gel began to harden into full-on skin, then said skin began to grow a thick, hard layer of bright orange scales.
“Hrrrgh….yeah….!” Wiwi growled. She was going to harness that flame, nay, she was going to BE that flame.
…Figuratively at least.
The end of Wiwi’s arms began to split up into three fingers with wickedly sharp claws on the end. They quickly tore through the arms of her onesie. Wiwi didn’t feel any colder or more exposed though, this all felt right to her.
“Gotta…keep changing…no more…no more cold!” Wiwi huffed. Her mind was fully encompassed by the changes, and the want- no, the NEED to spread fire. The warmth of flame needed to bathe this whole house! It needed to purge this place of that ivory curse known as snow!
“grrrAAAAGGGHH!” Wiwi roared, cocking her head back as her face began to grow. A ferocious, draconic snout began to form as her visage stretched out, rapidly ditching her former appearance as razor-sharp fangs descended from inside her mouth like stalagtites. Wiwi let out a satisfied huff, causing black smoke to expel from her nostrils.
Once her snout was finished forming, the back of her head began to grow three thick, scaly crests that pushed down the hood of her onesie as if it hadn’t been there to begin with.
“grrr…rrrgghhAAAGHH! chhhAAARR!” Wiwi’s speech and thought capabilities were downgrading rapidly as she fully regressed into the mindset of a Pokemon. Her neck then began to grow longer, nearly causing her head to hit the ceiling once it had reached maximum height. Following that, her torso started to reshape, swelling into a more ovular, plump shape, which caused her onesie to rip in a few places. Again though, she didn’t mind.
Her legs began to swell next, causing her onesie’s legs to rip off entirely, immediately afterwards, the ends of her legs began to grow into a set of clawed. Reptilian feet.
Wiwi’s (now-existing) spine began to heat up more than the rest of her body, and eventually a new growth began to branch off from it, a long, scaly tail quickly tore through the onesie’s fake tail. It dropped to the floor like the useless prop it was.
The closet was way too constrained now. Wiwi’s found herself ripping up all of those stupid blankets to try and free up space. It only bought her a little bit though, so Wiwi hauled her draconic body out of the closet and into her bedroom. Her onesie had fully shredded away by this point.
Once Wiwi was fully out of the confines of that closet, her back began to tingle once again, and soon, two new growths began to protrude out, curving once they were finished growing in. An additional change came afterwards when a thin, blue wing membrane began to descend out for each growing wing.
And with that, the end of Wiwi’s tail lit on fire, and she stood straight up, looking down at the ground.
“Char…” She began before throwing her head up and proceeded to release a torrent of blazing fire upon the bedroom. “-ZAAAAAARDDDD!” The Charizard roared.
The fire quickly, unnaturally spread throughout the house, melting the snow all around and dispelling the winter chill from the area entirely.
Wiwi let out a grunting laugh as she looked around.
Sure, her house may be completely burned down and she’ll have to deal with the ramifications when she turned back (if ever).
But hey, at least she wouldn’t be freezing cold for the winter!
