Fictober 2024 12: Well, that worked out great
The alien saucer floated high overhead, looming above the Emberglow Sprawl. The military had been rapidly mobilized to deal with the aggressive actions of the invading aliens. Within seconds there wasn't a trace of them left as the lasers from the ship decimated soldiers and their equipment alike.
Their dire warning of imminent destruction had caused a mass exodus of furres from all over the city. Within just a few hours the place was a ghost town. As a true showing of their superior power a massive cone of light cast down from the underside of the ship, engulfing the entire city. A low rumble shook the earth for miles around and when the light finally dissipated all that remained was a gigantic, smooth crater in the earth almost forty miles across.
Once they were sure that no one was left around, the saucer slowly descended towards the bottom of the crater, the ship giving off an unearthly hum. Legs extended from the bottom of the craft and settled into the hard packed bowl of earth, stone and clay. A door slowly opened downward from underneath it, forming into a long staircase as it clanked down onto the ground.
A silver bull with green spots made his way down the stairs, followed by a sheep with fleece to bright yellow that it almost seemed to glow in the shadows. Upon reaching the base of the crater, the bull crouched down and ran his fingers over the dirt, nodding with satisfaction.
“Well, that worked out great!” Bleated the sheep, grinning to her partner.
He smiled back at her, “Just perfect, Meadow. Let's find our prize and get off of this rock.”
“Here ya go, Rockhoof!” The sheep took a sensor of some kind and tossed it to the bull who deftly caught it in one two-fingered hand. He presses a button on the front, twisting a dial as she slowly swept it from side to side, almost like a hand held metal detector.
“Alright, where is it... It's gotta be around here somewhere.”
Meadow was actually on her hands and knees, crawling about and keeping a close eye on the ground. The bull actually chuckled at her.
“Still think your eyes can spot one of these before my sensor, huh?”
She grinned up at him, nodding, “I'll beat you to one sooner or later!”
Shaking his head, he headed off towards the side, slowly scanning the ground while the sheep headed in the opposite direction. In just a few moments he heard her joyful bleat.
“I found it!”
“No way!” Rockhoof raced over to where she was crouched on the ground, carefully slowing down as he approached. Sure enough, there between her knees was a tiny spire of rock with their glistening prize on the tip. Taking a magnifier from his belt, he gazed down at the glimmering object and smiled. The entire city was right there, almost small enough to balance on the head of a pin.
Using a pair of tweezers, the sheep deftly snapped of the very tip of the spire containing the city and settled it into a dish of bright pink stabilizing gel. Snapping the lid on top to keep it safe she stood up and brushed the dust from her knees before handing over their prize.
“Now we can take it back to our home world and set it back to normal size. This will provide housing for millions of our people!”
The bull nodded as they headed back towards their ship, patting Meadow on the back, “Yeah, I just hope there are not stowaways this time. The last one had quite the wold ride!”
