Back in May, when there was the huge aurora borealis, I was out in a field for a stargazing with an astronomy club, and as I hesitated to take my camera, I decided not to as we were going to observe stars through a telescope. And what a fool I have been! While we were stargazing, I noticed a redness in the sky, after a few photos, we realised it was northern lights. And instantly, I felt very stupid for leaving my camera at home. Instead, I took photos of these aurora with a hand held phone, and while the photos still show how incredible the event was, they were of poor quality.
And since then, knowing that there was a huge solar activity, I remained on the lookout for new auroras to be seen on my latitudes. And on this day of October 10th, I received a message that was saying that their was a chance of sighting auroras in the sky of my region. I took my camera with me, this time, and took off at night for some photos in a field I knew and that was away from light pollution. It was less impressive than the ones in May, as I believe the auroras stopped above the northern half of the UK, unlike the one in May that could be seen above the plains of my old Poitou. Clouds also proved to not be very cooperative, while giving a nice effect at first and helping spot the auroras, the weather became overcast around 2am, when the auroras became more intense, meaning that by then, there was nothing to be seen anymore and there was no sign of ending to that cloud layer.
