Another WIP I’ve had kicking around for a while, finally done now! A similar situation to Nahra and Tess (and from the same story too), I’ve had this character since college but he never got an actual reference sheet until now. And a slight name change this time too!

His original name was Kale, and I kept that name while making most of this sheet, but as I finally decided on his animal forms and updated human design, Kade just seemed to fit him a little better over time. It’s amazing how much of a difference one letter makes! I have some ideas for what I could do with his old name though, perhaps a twin or another character in the story? We’ll see. :)

Layout for reference sheets is a pretty thankless job (I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who can spend literal hours tweaking just a sheet’s layout lol) but it’s super satisfying to have it all come together in the end, and this was no exception. Though I’ve had a lot of experience with making character sheets at this point, finding that perfect orientation to fit everything in is always challenging.

I love working with this colour scheme too, it’s effortlessly striking and I love it. I very rarely use pure black or pure white in a design, but I felt it was necessary here. Combining different animals into one cohesive design, having that design match a human form and capturing the expression, updating a character I’ve had for a long time, some of my all-time favourite design things! :D I’ve needed this during an already chaotic month.
