Rexar & Draconis - Route Terminated
Dated 31/05/2011
"Next stop is the Desert of Dragons & Dinosaurs - where this route terminates. PERMANENTLY."
Remember what I said about two-and-a-half years late being better than never?...
It's a slight sense of deja vu as I bring to you another incredibly belated request picture for a good friend of mine,
draxi AKA Draconis. He had asked me way back in September 2008 if I could create a picture involving his dragon character in anthropomorphic form and Rexar engaged in some vehicle crushing activity - a fairly open-ended brief which would hopefully grant me some room for creativity. Much like my last request picture for Lawliet, this idea was subsequently put on hold but certainly not forgotten. Having conceived of a suitable composition, I had attempted to begin the project some time ago but struggled enormously with the anatomy, which led me to put it on hold again.
After completing Lawliet's request, I felt it only right that I get back to this one as well, but I decided to ditch the previous incarnation and start over. Whilst much of my original conception was of little interest, I was still keen on one particular aspect of it: Draconis crushing an upturned bus lengthways. After a bit of thought I then came up with this idea involving Rexar holding the bus between his feet to add an element of 'teamwork' into the whole affair.
The desert thing on the other hand was something out of left field - I had originally thought of a city or scrapyard setting, but given that this would've required further detailed drawing, scanning, colouring etc., I ultimately decided I couldn't be bothered! Hence instead, I went down my usual track of picking a natural setting which I can create reasonably easily using my tablet. It's probably not what Draconis would have envisaged (for which I apologise) but I ended up rather liking how it came out, so I stuck with it.
This one took three attempts to draw out, so it was not anywhere near as frustrating as my last submission. Whilst there are elements of it that I think are perhaps the wrong shape or wrong size, I found drawing most of the anatomy seemed to flow quite naturally on this occasion. I didn't want to go overboard with the detail but I decided to carry on a bit longer with the shading than I did with the last picture, so artistically I'm quite happy with it. In many ways, I'm actually quite glad I didn't do this picture back in 2008 or 2009, because given how my artistic methods and standards have changed since then, I don't think it would have come out anywhere near as good.
Draconis - my apologies for keeping you waiting so long, my friend, but I really hope this surprise was worth the wait.

Well thankfully I use new methods these days which have helped me to speed up in the production of my artwork. My recent Timon picture only took 14 hours in one day, for example, whereas 2009's Post Match Musk took me around 4 weeks.
But thanks for the compliment!

Gah ! That's just awesome Rexxy ! And I won't lie, this is by far my favorite depiction of Rexar: A giant dinosaur who loves to flatten cars under his big meaty soles ! This poor bus doesn't stand any chance of escape, trapped between those 2 gorgeous feet, and crushed by the merciless foot of Draconis !
One has to say that on first glance I tought you reposted one of your old "Rexar - Exveemon" pictures.
Another thing that I noticed is that you have gone for a longer middle toe approach in this drawing, Is this on purpose?
Well regardless It looks great nonetheless and Its great to see you posting artwork of such quality again.

Heh - well I suppose Draconis and Exveemon have rather similar bodies and colour schemes!
But "longer middle toe approach", you say? Well yes, this is indeed on purpose... but I thought I'd always drawn it that way? It's certainly not meant to be new!
Anyway, thanks, StompyChar!

Lol now this is a surprise! XDD You sure know how to make a dragon's day great lol. xD
The anatomy turned out really great! I like how you made me anthro with all those muscles and a strong chest. xD Although my fingers seem to be a bit long, but I don't mind. Draconis seems to be really enjoying this little feet, I mean feat. ;) And you used such nice soft colors there, that's truly the light blue color I love the most. ^^ Waaah makes me look so powerful in that pose, really great work!
The idea is certainly unique, I rarely see buses being crushed that way, that's one way to go. xD I did tell you to choose the idea yourself, cause many times it's best to leave up to the artist what to do, because then they choose what they will have most fun with. ^^ And Rexxar seems to be liking this too haha. xD
So I can only say, thank you so very much!! *glomps Rexx* I'm a patient person and I knew you would keep to your word, so don't worry about taking some time to make it. It's really a wonderful gift and I love it! Thank you again Rexx! We should get in touch again, catch up. ^^ I'll email you.

Hey, mate - glad you like it. Feel free to send me a message if there's any other aspects of it that you're not sure about.
I pretty much lifted the colours off a few reference pictures I had for your character, so they should be suitable. And I did actually make your character's fingers deliberately longer - for some reason I kinda feel that longer, slender fingers suit dragons, but maybe that's just me.
Hope to hear from you soon, matey, and I can only apologise that it took me so damn long!!!

wow, your not even giving the people in side the bus anyway of getting out of it before u crush them all XD
I do need to say also that though this is a crush pic, the way u draw your and
Draxi s body really ha me drooling. U really put such a smooth sensual feel to it that
of course with those powerfull feet of yours i would so want to be in that bus right now XD

Ah right, sorry - for some reason I thought you meant OpenCanvas! Heh!
Yeah, I've drawn a number of people's 'fursonas' and other characters in the past, but until recently I hadn't done so for a couple of years. Check out the older pages of my gallery and you'll see what I mean.

Heh now that's what I call Death Valley. X3; Anyways, all bad jokes aside, this is a good pic. :3 I noticed that you didn't use as much shading here either as you've done in a large portion of your pics. It gives it more of a cartoony-style, which I like too. ^^ I must say that this is a concept I've not seen before. Those people on the bus did not even see it coming. X3
I wish I was the buss. Because then I would be crushed by those feet only and not the metal of the bus slowly colapsing and crushing me.
I would find more pleasure in being crushed by those paws themselves.
Do you know what I mean?
Anyway, wonderful work.
I look forward to your upcoming works of art.
(*murmers* lucky bus...)
LMAO

Heh - well I prefer not to post sketches because I feel letting folks see the work in progress detracts from them seeing the final piece. Once they've seen the sketch, they've already got the gist of it, so the colour version is somewhat diminished in importance and impact.
That's just my opinion anyway.
Even so, I did recently post a little sneak peek at a bunch of my current works in progress if you're interested - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5779415/
