I wanted to get something abit more moody with joel, hes always very chipper in art but there is a lot of turmoil surrounding his past. This ones meant to be after a pretty ugly fight on his home world where his unit suffered some pretty serious casualties to include his section leader, who at that point for Joel had become a father figure.
