OMG! NOW RED-SUPERNOVA'S SUBMITTING PONY ART! AHHHH!!!
Hey, it had to happen since I joined this fandom right?
Anyway, since I've joined the fandom and have watched all season one episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I've have grown very fond of Equestria's beloved ruler/goddess, Princess Celestia! I mean, for a ruler that happens to be sweet, kind, wise, and even fun-loving, that's pretty rare to see in the realm of fiction! A ruler who just wants to have as much fun as her people sounds cool to hang out with! But as I searched for fanart of her, most of what I saw was Celestia portrayed as cruel tyrant who has an obsession with banishing things to the moon if something doesn't go her way. For this, they refer to her as "Princess Trollestia". I for one do not believe that she is in anyway a troll. I mean, how can this be troll-like:[link] I mean, yes that was a silly prank but it seemed harmless! Everyone else seems to think she's cruel and abusive to her people and sister!
Now for the record about her sister, I would like to let you all know that I too love Luna. Can't love Celestia without Luna you know! But it seems that everyone forgot about the emotion they went through in episode 1 and 2! I mean, didn't the opening narrative in episode 1 say that Celestia was filled with great sadness and regret after banishing Luna to the moon for a millennium? And weren't both sisters crying at the end of episode 2 when they were finally reunited? I think why a lot of people didn't take that into consideration is because of one thing: Luna did not appear after episode 2. People have been saying stuff like "She sent her back to the moon" and "She has her locked up in the castle prison!" But you know what the real reason is? The writers didn't think of it! I don't think they were aware of Luna's following until season one ended. And for that, they have conformed that Luna would be returning in season 2. I am all for that. I would love to know more about Luna and Celestia's backstories! They're my favorite secondary characters of the show!
But despite all this, I still see "Trollestia" stuff everywhere. Even Equestria Daily has succumbed to this! [link] [link] So basically, this picture is Celestia getting heckled by all the people who support the "Trollestia" bullshit and is emotionally hurt by their lies for the fact that she would never do such things.
So if you do support her for the way she is, then there might be a way to erase all the hate she's been getting. All I just hope is that none of this hate will affect Celestia in the next season. For those who still think she's a troll, watch episodes 1 and 2 again AND listen to this song:[link] then come back and tell me if you still think Celestia is still a trollish, tyrant with a banishment obsession. I'd highly think you'll have a change of heart.
Phew! That was a quite a rant. I gotta get some water. Hope you like my first attempt at MLP:FiM fanart!

I don't think the majority of fans actually think she is a tyrant, I think in all honesty, it's a running joke to most. Celestia is a very benevolent, practically perfect ruler- which is something of a fantasy. So of course, the joke-view of her is that she shows a perfect facade, while being either a mean prankster, a Machevallian-style manipulator, or an iron-hoofed tyrant. This isn't just for Celestia though. There's also:
*Clueless Twilight Sparkle
*Abusive Rainbow Dash
*Psychotic Killer Pinkie Pie
*Dim-witted Applejack
*Whiny, bigoted Rarity
*and recently, "You will LOVE ME!" raging Fluttershy
Also, bear in mind that the back-story to the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic didn't help at all. Basically, it comes across as " two sisters rule, then one gets upset, throws a cosmic hissy fit, so the other one traps her on the moon for one thousand years. It's a a short myth-tale that doesn't give context or the emotional weight of what happened and why. Some fans saw that and thought "How could Celestia do that to her own sister?" - hence all the crying luna on the moon art, which honestly kinda ticks me off, since *Nightmare Moon* was banished, and Nightmare Moon was who returned.
So yeah, there are some serious Celestia-haters, but I do think that the majority of fans don't actually veiw her as anything less than a good ruler who is actually fairly down-to-earth, with a good sense of humor.
That being said, I'm very, very glad you put your feelings both into print and art, to get the message out. Celestia does deserve a lot more love- and this is coming from an obsessed Nightmare Moon fan. :)
