I've started saving less and less though, to the point where I finish entire drawings before actually saving. I need to get back into the habit before I get screwed over myself. :C

It was a 20 minute sketch. >:( I refuse to save literally every 2 seconds. :< I will save every half hour, damn it.

And then get a better computer.

Do want brand new tablet pc with high resolution. :( I wish such a thing existed.

Maybe every 5 or 10 minutes. .3. I usually save before I add something to the drawing that will be difficult to remove/fix later anyway. I use Paint, so I don't have any fancy layer schmuckery I can pull to save myself. :U

And man, I want a tablet so much, but I think I want it to be one of those touchscreen-ish tablets, cause I tried using a WACOM a while ago, and trying to use a pen on that thing was slippery as all hell. D:

Are you in love with MS Paint? There's an awesome free alternative, with history, layers, color wheels, and those color combining circle things. Anyway, it's called paint.net , google it and try it, it's amazing.

But I know about Paint.net, yes. I also got SAI. The thing is, I use a mouse, and MS Paint is like the easiest program for me to use with a mouse thanks to the wide variety of auto-shaping tools it has.

That, and it feels kinda nice when people say "you do this on Paint? WITH A MOUSE? O:" sometimes. :3

I've had that happen to me before, when i was nearly finished with a commission pic... and all i had before was a base sketch that i had ended up changing as i worked on it X.x it sucked XD

Maybe try making a list of the HEX values for the base colors for the next try.

SAI doesn't use HEX codes as far as I know, so I'll have to eventually learn their RGB codes. :< Or you know, save swatches... >_> *goes to do that right now*

I have no idea why office is the only common suite with a functional auto-save. Drawing and CAD programs use so much memory they can't help but go corrupt on less-than-ideal hardware.

sai can be a bitch sometimes.

I mapped one of my wacom's buttons to save for exactly this reason... Though I do sympathise ^^;

Any pointers you could give me? I'm using a vector layer, and using the Curve tool to
do it since I have a mouse and no tablet thingy. Usually 1.4 size, with the second brush
head. It looks okay. For finer stuff I go down to like 0.5.

The more advance settings confound me. ;.;

I'm a graphic designer and have had photoshop just up and die on me four hours into something before I realise I never saved the darn thing. Major rageville right there. :<

But yeah, after a while you develop "the itch", it makes you hit CTRL/CMD+S every time you finish doing something. I probably save once or twice a minute, I'm that paranoid about it.

I usually save about that often myself, although it does go faster with something like Wordpad or MS Paint than with a heavy program like PS. It's a habit I got into after losing one too many projects to unexpected crashes. Sometimes I go as far as saving multiple files at different stages.

But I don't think saying as much really helps, since it won't bring your original file back. Sorry, Ajna

Unfortunately I have a tablet pc and I draw with it in clipboard mode, so no keyboard for me. Gotta remember to file -> save.

Are there any extra buttons on it at all? My tablet has a button set to ctrl z, and i might just set one to crrl alt s too xD

Image editors I find are the worst for crashing/freezing RIGHT when you finish your work.

My sai has the bad tendencie of destroying files... like they just get unusable by any program, like that, out of the blue... meaing I need to save a copy in SAI and in photoshop... And I regret it every time I think it not gonna be needed...

Sai can be a wonderful program as other time, he is a pain in the neck...

God I have that happen sometimes too, and if worst comes to worst I will paste the screenshot into MSPaint if nothing else. DX

You could always screen shot your little preview pic up in the corner and blow it up to ink over!

Ah GIMP gets weird sometimes here. the pressure options just won't work unless I restart it, and sometimes I can't draw anything on it, only the mouse works >_>

yanno I have the same issues with SAI. Sometimes my compy will even bluescreen during my drawing... i've wiped and redone my computer up to 5 times now. and everytime i reinstall SAI it starts to fuck shit up.. but i love it so goddamn much
