Part 2 of the commission

As Kurt cleans his rifle after the conclusion of one of Able Company's wargame cycles, one of his marines, who was helping back up personal belongings for transfer to the UNSC Pale Horse, comes over to him carrying a picture that was taken long, long ago. He smiles, remembering that day 11 years ago. Back then he was focused on just doing his job and raising awareness for his people's plight, never really thinking about how far he'd get. Maybe get to Lance Corporal or Specialist at best before either retiring, being medically discharged, or being killed. And yet, here he is, a Staff Sergeant leading Warlock 1-3, a little over a decade into his career. To an outside observer, it may seem strange to see a dragon leading a squad of humans, but to the men of the 12th he's just another Marine. Through mud, blood, sweat, and tears he's earned their respect, and they'll stand by him as much as he'll stand by them.
2 years ago yesterday, October 16th, 2022, I decided to take a chance and accept an invite from a friend to join an Arma unit called the 12th Marine Division. 2 years ago today, October 17th, 2022, I was inducted as a recruit, eager to go through BCT that Sunday. Once that was done, I was put under the command of then Cpl A. Smith in 2nd Squad "Demon", and the rest is history. You know... back then... I never imagined I'd be in a leadership position, let alone leading a squad of my own. All I was focused on was loading in every Saturday when I could, and having a blast. I had taken up the mantle several times when needed, either filling in as an FTL as the most senior member of the fireteam, or picking Holliday's radio off his dead/unconscious body to report the situation to HQ and then attempt to get anyone who was still alive somewhere safe... failing once during that time on Cygnus... shudders
But when the call came for people to step up into leadership positions... I decided to give it a shot. I initially applied as an FTL, wanting to start small before deciding if I felt I could truly handle the squad leader position should an opening arise. And yet, when Smith asked me to be a squad lead due to both 2-1 and 2-2 lacking one once the old guard had retired, I accepted. And while I may no longer be 2-2 anymore, or 2-1 for that matter... I don't regret that decision one bit. I look forward to getting better in my position, and getting to know my guys a lot better as time goes on. No matter what happens, I plan to be here for the long haul. I'll be staying on this ship whether it sails well or goes down in flames. That is how important this unit and its members are to me. Hell I think this is the first time I've ever commissioned something specifically to commemorate an event.
