They all waited silently before the large muzzle appeared in front of them. As it breathed, the exhales from its nose condensed on the clear plastic coating. A large red eye pierced through the damp plastic ball, letting the group know that it had found them. Lush long eyelashes beckoning them as its eyes blinked.

But to their surprise, it did not gobble them up on the spot.

“Is it… smiling?” Sophia whispered.

The eye made way for a large light blue tongue that licked and squished right against the transparent edge of the bubble. Strands of thick drool slopped and dripped over the spherical window to the outside as the damp, warm breath of the monster fogged and obscured the crew's vision. The ground shook again as the hound sniffed around the plastic ball before standing up. As the fog on the bubble dissipated, the group looked up and saw a pair of fluffy balls and a sheath dangling between her hind legs through the tree-like fibers of carpet. Loud gurgle noises could be heard emanating from them even through the thick plastic as the hound trod off.

“W-why didn’t it hurt us?” Sophia asked.

“I think you know why,” Jack said as he took down the now viscous plastic bubble. “Our scents lead right back to base camp, and that thing knew that.”

“You mean that— “

“It ran straight in the camp’s direction, exactly, and considering its size it must be already there. It’s too late to warn them at this point, we need to get out of here.”
