But aside from Dragon Ball, Toriyama was also responsible for other works outside of the manga and anime adaptations, one of them, would be Dragon Quest, a well known RPG franchise that Chunsoft and Enix (back before they merge with Square to become Square Enix) created, in 1986.
Previously known in North America as Dragon Warrior, to avoid conflict with another RPG game by Simulations Publications in 1980, who use that name as a trademark until it expired in 2000, allowing Enix permit the original name of the franchise be used in there permanently.
Created by Yuji Horii from Armor Project, it's one of the well known RPG franchises with it's unique gameplay design that improve over the course of years, with plenty of installments, including spin-offs to appear in every home consoles, handhelds and even on mobile phones.
As each title (saving for some including spin-offs), you play the role of the main characters simply known as "hero", where you have to save the World from the forces of evil along with a party of other warriors that'll later join your cause to save the day.
Along with Toriyama from Bird Studios as the character designer and Koichi Sugiyama from Sugiyama Kobo as the composser, it became famous not only in Japan, but the rest of the World, appearing in other medias outside of video games, including movies, anime and manga adaptations, as well as crossovers with other franchises including Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers, with Ultimate featuring of the heroes as DLC characters.
And so, continuing with the tribute to Toriyama, here we have the quartet of wolves: Angel, Miguel Angelo, Oswald and Tavi as the four heroes of Dragon Quest.
Oswald's the hero of DQ 4, while Angel's the hero of DQ 5, Miguel Angelo's the hero of DQ 8 and Tavi's the hero of DQ 11.
