This pixel artwork is going to be my Halloween special. I had to be quick since I have many assignments due by the end of this month, hence I had been extremely busy with those. Other than that I also have a Maths test in 1 week's time.
I had first heard of Useless Boxes back in January 2021 on YouTube. Basically, a "Useless Box" is a machine that has a switch that you can flip to turn it on. Once flipped, the box's flap opens and its arm will flip the switch back and turn itself off. I suddenly had peculiar feelings about these useless boxes... the way they are laid out makes them look anthropomorphic, the switch facing up resembling a belly button and when touched or flipped, makes the box respond to it, like as if it was tickled. The box's flap that opens resembles a mouth, with its arm resembling its tongue that flips back the box's switch. However, my peculiar feelings apply to some of them, but not all. I'm talking about those with the top face being split to two halves, one of them with a switch at the center and the other that is a flap that releases its arm.
I had been talking to Microsoft's AI, Copilot about whether a useless box's switch resembles a belly button. The AI actually did! So I thought of something that I felt like designing: a catgirl-themed useless box! Her body would be bright pink, with cat ears on the top, the front face split into two halves, one above the other, with the top half having mechanical eyes, a cat nose, whiskers, a flap to resemble her mouth and an arm to resemble her tongue, and the bottom half having one belly button switch at the center. Every time her belly button is touched or flipped, she gets a ticklish sensation. In response, she would stick her tongue and use it to flip back her belly button. Her name? Purrplexia! Though I did not come up with "Purrplexia" as the name of the catgirl useless box; I asked the Copilot AI to come up with one.
And to finish things off, I wish you all a Happy Halloween in 2024!
