Angel Hare is a youtube series that is still going to this day, and I figured this month may be the best to promote what I would consider the best Analog Horror story there is.
I want people to see this, but I want to spill what I love about this as well. So, I'll try to keep spoilers low.
Angel Hare, in the videos was a Christian show made for children where an angelic rabbit would teach them about the bible and some of gods lessons. However, the silent protagonist of this series recalls the show different than what is on the VHS tapes. He plays the official release next to his home recordings of the show and the differences go from strange to completely off the the tails. That's the most I'll spoil of the series, go check it out on youtube.
With that aside, the style went for is really clever, and the idea, while maybe not original, is really well done. The animation is really talented, and the story telling is on point. The story is what hits me the most for how they portray a lot. You're not the whole story, just enough pieces to put the picture together yourself. This is a masterful move in the horror because what scares people most is the human mind. This allows us, the viewers, to be disturbed, spooked, or even scared despite not seeing any blood, core, violence, or even hear swearing.
Moving away from the horror, The art style and animation holds a very nostalgic feel, the maker of this series really knew what they were doing. The voice acting is also well done, you can understand every character, and the audio is fitting for the time. This only started up about 3 years ago, I think, and the makers managed to give off this vibe that it came around in the 1990's
Now, The horror mainly is there for the first season, Episodes 1 - 6, and then it changes to more of a found footage style exploring the concept of what Angel Gabby and her friends are. Holding up to the styles really well, while being very wholesome, and exploring more of the idea behind these things.
With that all aside, I will repeat myself, go check out this series, it's fantastic for this time of year.
